Magellan RoadMate 3030-LM 4.7" GPS Review

Year after year, GPS units continue to find their way into more and more vehicles. And as with any consumer electronic item, there are plenty of choices to choose from. This is also the case with GPS receivers. It is also no longer good enough just to get us from point A to point B accurately. Us consumers expect more features. Fortunately, the Magellan RoadMate 3030-LM delivers on both fronts.

The Magellan RoadMate 3030-LM is a 4.3" GPS receiver with some great features. They are:
◦Free lifetime map updates for the life of the GPS navigator
◦OneTouch™ favorites menu offers instant access to your personalized bookmarks of favorite places and searches anywhere you travel. With a single touch, find your favorite café or restaurant in any city.
◦Highway Lane Assist shows realistic highway signs to guide you and ensure that you'll choose the correct lane
◦Built-in AAA TourBook® guide provides ratings and descriptions on AAA-approved places to stay, play, dine, and save.
◦Extra-large 4.7" color touch screen is easy to view.
◦Spoken street names and directions so you can hear upcoming turn directions.
◦Highway exit POIs search finds gas stations, restaurants, hotels, and more near upcoming highway exits.
◦QuickSpell® narrows your address and city searches, as you type, making destination entry easy.
◦Multi-destination routing lets you plan your trip with multiple stops. Choose the order you want or automatically optimize your route. Saving time and money.
◦AAA Member Roadside Assistance shows the AAA phone number and your exact location on the GPS navigator screen for easy reference.2
◦Preloaded premium maps give you the latest maps and directions as you travel the contiguous United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
◦Millions of points of interest (POIs) help you easily find gas stations, restaurants, ATMs, coffee shops, and much more.
◦Route customization lets you choose the shortest distance, fastest time, most use of freeways, or least use of freeways
◦Address book enables you to create and store contact information.
◦Auto night view adjusts your screen's color and contrast for easy night viewing.
◦Automatic re-route lets you quickly get back on track in case you missed a turn.

The Megellan RoadMate 3030-LM was a true pleasure to work with. As great as a lot of features are, it is still a GPS receiver. It's core function is to get us correctly from point A to point B. And if it does not do that job well, the other features are a bit pointless. The Megellan RoadMate 3030-LM performed that part very well! And having that functionality down pat, the other features were also able to perform well.

In addition to getting me to the right place accurately, an additional feature that is a core feature to me is lane guidance. In big cities, there can be a lot of freeways. These are often accompanied with many exits to other freeways. In these circumstances, lane guidance can be crucial. One touch was also a great feature. If there are places you like to go, you can program that address as a one touch location. Now, no matter where you are, home is just one touch away. It's extensive list of millions of Points of Interest also makes it easy to find types of restauraunts such as Italian, or a particular chain such as Taco Bell. It can also help in finding the closest bank, gas station, or hotel. Additional places such as library, and tourist destinations are also there.

Additional functionality of the RoadMate 3030-LM also performed well. The turn by turn voice guidance worked well and was clearly audible. The 4.3" display was crisp, and the zoom in, zoom out, and 3D and 2D modes worked equally well. The touch screen was very accurate and responsive. Going into the settings will also allow you to have your routes determined based on options such as fastest route, or shortest route, for example, as well as including a particular intersection. And if needed, re-routing is also there. Touching the time at the bottom left corner will also pop up a box that displays elevation, speed, direction, distance, and remaining time. And with the lifetime map updates feature of the Magellan RoadMate 3030-LM you know you will always have a well functioning GPS receiver that won't be obsolete in 6 months. And to top it all of, the construction quality was also very good.

I must say that with the Magellan RoadMate 3030-LM I was pleasently unsurprised by it's performance. There are brands that have the reputation that consumers can trust their products to function well. In the world of GPS, Magellan has proven to be one of them. And the RoadMate 3030-LM holds true to that reputation. In fact based on it's features, quality, and performance, the Magellan RoadMate 3030-LM has earned our Highly Recommended Award. Congrats! BodyMedia Returns from Las Vegas a Winner

BodyMedia Returns from Las Vegas a Winner

BodyMedia® wins 2011 Bluetooth SIG Best of CES Award, Debuts BodyMedia FIT™ Mobile Platform and Announces Industry Partnerships with Sprint and Panasonic

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Even though the lights have been turned off and the convention center doors are closed, “Viva Las Vegas” is still ringing true for BodyMedia®, the pioneers in developing wearable body monitoring systems. Marking the company’s debut at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show, BodyMedia officially launched the BodyMedia FITTM Armband BW at the recent trade show, taking home the 2011 Bluetooth SIG Best of CES Award in the NEXT category. On top of that, the innovative company announced major partnerships with Sprint and Panasonic. Not too shabby for a first time performance in sin city!

Enabled by cutting edge Bluetooth® wireless technology, the BodyMedia FIT Armband BW collects users’ information, such as calorie burn, steps taken, physical activity levels and sleep through a portable Armband, sending the results straight to their smartphones. With instantaneous updates, the system makes the information easily accessible, allowing consumers to check their progress at any second of the day. Setting and monitoring workout goals, as well as logging food, are other advantages of the program.

“The BodyMedia FIT Armband BW is a perfect example of thinking outside of the box when it comes to Bluetooth connectivity – we enable a great deal more than just the wireless headsets so many consumers are familiar with today,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. “Bluetooth wireless technology can connect anything and improve practically any consumer electronics experience – in this case, Bluetooth technology allows users to better monitor and track their activity and calorie expenditure, an essential step to improving one’s health.”

Rising above a record number of entries focusing on Bluetooth products now available in the marketplace, the BodyMedia FIT Armband BW was carefully reviewed and judged by the Bluetooth SIG based on a variety of criteria, including interoperability testing, containing expected profiles and ease of use. Ten finalists were chosen before the week started, and the BodyMedia FIT Armband BW was unveiled as the winner of the NEXT category by the end of CES.

Showing just how informative and unique the new Mobile platform is, BodyMedia showcased a number of experiential initiatives during CES through Nic the Intern – a living Las Vegas product demonstration! Showing up in BodyMedia style, Nic Wilson and John (Ivo) Stivoric, CTO of BodyMedia, skydived straight into CES (watch the video here: www.youtube.com/BodyMediaFIT, pictures available upon request)! Tracking his calories burned, steps taken, physical activity levels and sleep throughout the trade show, Nic did everything from completing a 5k run and racing a Lamborghini, to performing in a Chippendale’s show and dancing around Las Vegas Boulevard in a pink monkey suit. Linked to his BodyMedia FIT Armband BW for five days, he tracked 24,780 calories burned, 76,815 steps taken, 2,324 minutes of activity, and 13 Hours and 42 minutes of sleep! Check out the data he streamed from his smartphone and the videos documenting his various adventures on the web at www.follownicsband.com.

Also at CES, Panasonic and BodyMedia announced a partnership to put both organizations on the cutting edge for adding important health and wellness information to everyday TV viewing. The innovative BodyMedia FIT App will sync with Panasonic’s VIERA ConnectTM -enabled HDTVs via Bluetooth wireless technology to allow a family (up to four users) to track their calorie burn and activity trends in real time as they work out while watching TV or playing video games. Scheduled to launch in May 2011, VIERA Connect will expand the role of the television within one’s home as the integration of a body monitoring technology with the TV is enabling real-time health and wellness management.

Additionally, BodyMedia and Sprint teamed up at CES to unveil a Sprint ID pack which will allow consumers to personalize select AndroidTM mobile devices from Sprint with the BodyMedia FIT pack of health and wellness featured apps and widgets. This ID pack will be available to consumers in the first half of the year. Through a partnership, the two companies also announced a new line of embedded wireless BodyMedia FIT Armbands and future wearable body monitors. This line, set to launch in 2011, will use the M2M platform to wirelessly send information to the users’ smartphones where mobile application can provide near real-time feedback and analysis.

BodyMedia FIT products are sold online at www.bodymedia.com or at select retailers, such as Costco, Amazon and Best Buy. The BodyMedia FIT Armband BW retails for $249.00. Ascendant Audio 12" Arsenal 2-Ohm DVC Car Audio Subwoofer Review

It used to be that some of the best audio gear was made in the USA. But corporations made a move to cut costs and those jobs were moved overseas where labor was less costly. Many products are still designed and engineered here in the US, but they are not physically made here. So I did a search to see who is making audio products here in the US. And the first of this series features Ascendant Audio.
Ascendant Audio is a company out of Las Vegas, NV that focuses on car audio subwoofers. They are all hand made out of their local facility, and their product line consists of 6 models. They are the Assassin, Arsenal, Chaos, Havoc, Mayhem, and Signature. The model up for review today is a pair of their beginning mid-level product, the Arsenal 12" 2-Ohm DVC subwoofer, with an MSRP of $289 each. The product was packaged very well and securely. I also liked they way they used just a plain brown box, to help pass some savings on to us consumers.
You will find that this mid-level subwoofer model looks more like some's upper-level. The Arsenal features...

-Clean daily driver that works well ported or sealed.
-10", 12", and 15" models in both dual 2 ohm and dual 4 ohm
-Triple Stacked FEA optimized motor.
-2.5" 4 layer aluminum coil.
-Dual linear spiders.
-Ultra rigid reinforced cone body.
-Hybrid foam surround.
-Cast Aluminum basket.
-Wrap Round rubber gasket.
-Silver 8AWG Push Terminals.
-500 watts RMS.

The sub is designed for a sealed enclosure ranging from 0.75-1.25 CF, and a ported enclosure ranging from 1.75-2.5 CF. At 24 lbs, the Arsenal 12" DVC subwoofer is a solidly built component. The cast aluminum basked is thick to withstand a lot of abuse. The soldering points on the push terminals were very solid. The magnet structure, rubber surround, and cone pieces were all put together well. The fiber reinforced kraft pulp cone was extremely stiff for high excursion and low distortion. I also liked the attention to detail, such as the piece of black felt glued to the underside of the cone, right above the terminals, to protect the cone against rubbing of the tinsel leads against it during long excursions. Although it appeared doubtful that would happen due to the amount of clearance there was between the cone and leads, it was nice to see the fact that it was done, just in case. Being black it blends in with the cone and is hard to notice, but is nice to know it is there. The dual spiders also appears to be of good quality. And while the tinsel leads were not sewn into the spider, it does not take away from the performance. Ascendant Audio builds their products with the philosophy of build it so it does not come back. That philosophy appears extremely accurate, as these Arsenals were both very well built.

But construction components and build quality is only part of the story. Let's see how it sounds. I will be throwing my own arsenal of tracks at it. I want to see not only how it puts out, but how musical it is doing so.

To start off, I went to No Doubt: Hellagood. The Arsenals provided a tight clean bass, with good extension. And it did so with great chest pounding authority. Next up was SexyBack, which yielded the same results. Bass was clean, had good low end extension, and gave great output. Indeed, they seemed to play loud, and low is my sealed enclosure. As I turned up the volume, they seemed never satisfied and wanted to play louder, and did so distortion fee. Huey Lewis and the News: Heart of Rock and Roll, the bass was nice and tight in the quick kick drum beats, with good detail.

To put them to the test further, I turned to one of my trusted bass CD's - Techmaster PB: Activite. I was surprised at how well this beginning mid-level model handled. The Arsenal behaved and performed more like an upper-level model. The large foam surround seemed to provide plenty of excursion. The stiff cone showed no flex, and the motor structure provided great control. Extended bass notes and tones were chest wrenching! Last but not least I turned to Pirates of the Caribbean theme song, for a bit more of a critical listening. I was again treated to the same performance . The bass was very deep with nice extension on the tympanies. They played with a lot of authority and high output, and only a tad muddy with fast beats. Pitch definition was not as good as I have heard, but good at this price point.

The Ascendant Audio Arsenal 12" DVC 2-Ohm subwoofers provided usable extension below 30 cycles, down into the 20's. And I was surprised how musical they were. They are indeed a reference model at their price point of $289 MSRP. While they are not SPL subwoofers, they did like to play loud and deep, were responsive, and provided good definition. At 500 watts RMS they will not bring the Mayhem that a competition 2,000+ watt RMS sub will bring. But hey, Ascendant Audio has them too! For those looking for a great daily sub, the Arsenal should be on your short list. And not only will you enjoy a great sub that is built to last, but you will also be supporting our local workers! Based on their quality, features, and performance, we are happy to announce they have won our Highly Recommended Award. Congrats! For more info, and complete specs, check out their website at http://www.ascendantaudio.com/ntaudio.com/.
Reference gear used: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X991 receiver, Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 25 to Life Amplifier, Vibe Audio Space 6 3D 3-way Component System, and Rockford Fosgate Fanatic HPC-1206U.

Zed Audio Corporation Announces New 2011 Car Audio Amplifiers

New products being introduced Mid February, 2011.

After many months of auditioning IC chip sets for the front end of our amplifiers, we have settled on a generation of chips from National Semi-conductor. They are superior to the Burr Brown chips (these are no slouches in their own right) in several key areas.

Specification National Burr Brown

THD 0.000003% 0.00008%
Input noise density 2.7nV/ root Hz 8nV/ root Hz
Slew rate 20v/uSec 15v/uSec
Full power bandwidth 10MHz 1.3MHz
Gain Bandwidth 55MHz 8MHz

How do they sound? In every listening test done under blind A-B conditions, we preferred the National chip.

Leviathan:

150w x 6 at 4 ohm, 300w x 6 at 2 ohm. Leviathan has several upgrades and changes.
Channels 1+2 High Pass crossovers now have a range of 55Hz to 4KHz at 24dB/octave.
Channels 3+4 High and Low Pass crossovers have a range of 55Hz to 4KHz at 24dB/octave.
Channels 5+6 High Pass has a range of 11Hz to 105Hz so now in conjunction with the Low Pass crossover (40Hz-240Hz) these two channels may be used for low midbass duties.

The distortion of the amplifiers has been reduced and the use of new high current high speed MOSFETs will enhance the sound quality.

The blue “ZED” logo now functions as a power on indicator, a logo and a protection indicator. If any of the protection mechanisms are activated the “ZED” logo will flash on and off.

The power supply has several improvements with regards to power regulation and sensitivity to pulses on the +12v battery buss.

Kronos will not be produced again as the need for a high power 2 channel amplifier is growing smaller and smaller. The new mono blocks and 4 channel amplifiers will amply fill this role.

Draconia:

We are reviving the name of the first 4 channel amplifier to be produced under the Zed name but this new amplifier is a different breed.

All the upgrades and chipset info applies to Draconia as well.

Power rating is 100w x 4 at 4 ohms and 200w x 4 at 2 ohms.
In bridge mode 200w x 2 at 8 ohms 400w x 2 at 4 ohms.
Channels 1+2 have a 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley High Pass crossover 55Hz-4KHz and a 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley Low Pass crossover 50Hz-4KHz. Flat, High Pass, Low Pas and Band Pass functions are available.

Channels 3+4 have the same compliment of crossovers and in addition there is a 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley High Pass crossover 10Hz-48Hz and a constant Q single band equalizer (40Hz centre frequency) which are both switched in when the “Sub-Mode” is selected. When “Sub-Mode” is selected, channels 3+4 receive their signal from a mono mix of all 4 inputs.

There are two further Mode switches. The first switches channels 3+4 to the signal path of 1+2, thus a two input signal source is only required.

The second is associated with channels 1+2 and allow the final gain stage and power amplifiers of 1+2 to select the signal source from 3+4. Therefore channels 1+2 will have the same signal content as 3+4 and this will be cool for those who want to use this as a 4 channel sub amplifier or simply want to have 4 channels with the same signal. The 3+4 inputs are thus used in this mode.

The constant Q equalizer is superior to the common versions on all other amplifiers. The Q (Bandwidth) remains constant no matter how much boost is selected. All other equalizers have very low Q at lower boost settings and only approach the desired Q at full boost (or cut).

Four clip LEDs are standard, one for each channel.

Draconia is the same size as the outgoing Kronos at 280mm (11”) long.

Dreadnought:

The name is in recognition of the First World War British battleships. This amplifier is truly a Dreadnought. Rated at 225w x 4 at 4 ohm and 400w x 4 at 2 ohms it is a true power house in the world of 4 channel amplifiers.
Bridged power into 8 ohm is 450w x 2 and into 4 ohm 800w x 2.
This should satisfy the power cravings from sub duty to tweeters!

The feature sets are identical to those shown above fro Draconia. The foot print is identical to Leviathan.
Minotaur:

The mythical half bull, half man from ancient Greek mythology is the name we have given to the first of our mono blocks.

Rated at 500w x 1 at 4 ohm and 1000w x 1 at 2 ohm this shall be the smaller of the mono blocks in our line up.

We begin with 4 RCA inputs…. Not to worry these do double duty as well.
Inputs 1 and 3 along with 2 and 4 may be paralleled at the push of a switch. So either two or 4 input signals are accommodated. In the two input configuration the gain of the front end is automatically compensated for the loss of the other two inputs. In the two input mode the 3+4 sockets are simple loop outputs for daisy chaining amplifiers.

A High Pass Linkwitz-Riley Crossover with an industry first of 48dB/octave, and a frequency range of 8Hz to 100Hz is the first signal block. This is followed by a variable phase shift circuit which allows the phase to be varied between 0 and 180 degrees. Following this is a Low Pass 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley crossover with a range of 45Hz to 230Hz.

The High and Low Pass crossover can be set so that a bandpass function can be set for those using QUAD amped systems and require high power for their lower midrange drivers.

Now for all you hardcore power junkies, a selector switch follows. The selections are “Flat”, “Preamp” and “Slave” modes.

In “Flat” the complete signal processing circuitry is eliminated and only the equalizer and level control remain in the signal path. This allows Minotaur to be used as a full range (Yes full range as in 20Hz-20KHz) mono amplifier. Any crossovers that may be required must be an outboard unit.

In “Preamp” mode the full preamplifier is active.

In “Slave” mode the amplifier becomes the slave half of a bridged pair. (More about this later).

There is a 5 band constant Q equalizer set at standard ISO frequencies of 25Hz, 31Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz and 63Hz. These are boost-cut controls which will allow the tailoring of the bottom end to suit all tastes.

A set of 4 LEDs allows you to keep track of the peak power output, -9dB, -6dB, -3dB and 0dB (125w, 250w, 500w, 1000w at 2 ohm and 63w, 125w, 250w and 500w at 4 ohm).

There are two (2) line outputs, one is at 0 degrees phase and the second 180 degrees out of phase. The 0 phase output can be fed to a second Minotaur which is set to “slave” mode and a second woofer can be driven with no bridging of the two Minotaurs.

The 180 output is fed to a second Minotaur which is then bridged together with the master Minotaur. Thus 1000w at 8 ohm and 2000w at 4 ohm are available from the bridged pair.

The Slave Minotaur uses the “1” input as its master input and no other RCAs are used.

Four (4) Minotaurs may be set up in a parallel/bridge configuration with the main master Minotaur being the only one whose preamplifier controls affect the other three. The output power in this configuration is a total of 2000w at 8 ohm and 4000w at 4 ohm

RA
The newest member of our family is called RA, yes that’s right “RA the remote”. RA was the Egyptian Sun God and our version has some rays of its own.

This remote control is absolutely unique in that it has features never seen before. It is a self powered remote meaning that it has its own internal switching supply and thus is not tethered to Zed amplifiers. It may be used with any amplifier as it is a line in-line out product. RA was designed with only subwoofer duty in mind.

It features two RCA inputs and a single RCA output.

A 24dB/octave Low Pass Linkwitz-Riley crossover with a range of 45Hz-240Hz (We included this as RA may be used with any other amplifier and we feel that our crossovers sound better) feeds a twin band Sub Harmonic Synthesizer. These two bands at 32 and 45Hz have been synthesized down to half their frequency, each with its own level control and a master control. This configuration allows complete control over the mix of the two bands and the absolute level. It is absolutely amazing the magic that this circuit performs.

A compressor with variable threshold (to suit the input level of RA) follows and this will tighten up the bass considerably. The attack and release times have been optimized for low frequency operation.

The last control is a volume control.

RA measures in at 125mm wide x 23.5mm high x 69mm high (4.9” x 0.925” x 2.7”).

Megalith or it as it may be called Pterpodactyl.

This is identical to Minotaur except that the output is 1000w x 1 at 4 ohm and 2000w x 1 at 2 ohm. So two of these puppies bridged will deliver 2000w at 8 ohm or 4000w at 4 ohm.

The Hybrid tube-solid state amplifier (The name shall only be announced at its introduction):

This is a 4 channel amplifier with a completely tubed front end and a new design of linear amplifier for the output stages. Rated at between 75 to 100w per channel this shall set a new standard for amplification in the mobile arena.

This amplifier shall be introduced in April, 2011.

CHILL PILL AUDIO AT 2011 INTERNATIONAL CES WITH NEW

CHILL PILL AUDIO AT 2011 INTERNATIONAL CES WITH NEW
ON-THE-GO GADGETS
—Line of Chill Pill Audio for people who live out loud & on the go—

WAITSFIELD, VT—Small Dog Electronics, the nation’s third largest Apple specialist, will be featuring its two proprietary brands of trend-setting mobile computing peripheral products at the 2011 CES show in January. The line of Chill Pill mobile audio products was a tremendous success at its introduction two years ago, and this year the line features bleeding edge speaker and recording devices for iPads, iPhones, iPods, and similar portable devices. The Hammerhead line of products is also back at CES, and will feature new peripherals that help users get the most out of their iPad. More information on both lines of products is available at www.chillpillaudio.com.

· The original and innovative Chill Pill, a clever, sleek and amazing-sounding mini-speaker system, was a runaway best seller virtually from the day it was introduced two years ago. Its successor has finally arrived—The NEW Chill Pill Plus. Chill Pill Plus features important enhancements including 40% more speaker power, a larger rechargeable lithium ion battery with extended battery life, 10 hours of rechargeable lithium battery life (a 25% increase from the original Chill Pill), and a more rugged case. All with only a 15% increase in overall dimensions. We expect the Chill Pill Plus to be a runaway best seller that will lead the category, just the way the original Chill Pill did. Chill Pill Plus prototypes will be available in black, red, white and blue for testing at CES. MSRP is $59.

The original Chill Pill will still be offered, and sports some updates as well. Two new colors will be offered: a limited edition dark purple, and ‘Beat Breast Cancer’ pink. One dollar from each pink Chill Pill mobile speaker sold will be donated to the National Breast Cancer foundation (NBCF). The original Chill Pill retails for $39.99.

· The RapCap, brings high definition recording capability to all iPod models with plug and play simplicity. It also enhances the recording capabilities that come with iPhones and later generation iPods. The pencil eraser sized device has received rave reviews and is indispensible for students, attorneys, teachers, doctors, and anyone on the go that needs high quality recording capability. RapCap comes in all 11 colors to match any color iPod or phone. MSRP is $14.99.

· The innovative Hammerhead Verso iPad case was the first genuine leather iPad case to the market, featuring a sleek folio look, right or left hand accessibility, and a magnetic enclosure. The design philosophy of the Verso was to start with top quality materials and construction methods, and then have the discipline to not throw in everything but the kitchen sink. The result is a super-sleek, trim, and professional looking iPad case, with the features you need, but none of the hokey add-ons and geeegaws you don’t. It’s the perfect case for the businessperson that brings an iPad to a meeting to take notes, but who wants to be discrete in a professional environment. The top-grain genuine leather case folds horizontally to hold iPad at an optimal angle for typing, reading, viewing video or slide shows. It also features direct access for on/off and volume buttons, headphone jack and dock connector port. Verso comes in Ebony, Chocolate or Candy Apple colors. MSRP is $59.99, a price point that puts it in a category of its own for value.

· Vibrant Hammerhead Neoprene sleeves are highly protective, form fitting iPad and MacBook sleeves. Designed specifically to fit each device without adding excess bulk, they preserve the sleek form factor of your mobile device, allowing it to easily slip into a purse or briefcase. Nine sizes of Hammerhead sleeves are available to fit iPad and any MacBook. They come in two colors and are reversible with contrast stitching. Prices range from $14.99-$19.99 and fit up to a 17” MacBook Pro.

· The sleek Hammerhead Stylus pens retail for $9.99 and are available in long, short, and collapsible styles in several colors to match any mobile gadget. Stylus pens are a mandatory accessory for designers, illustrators, architects, physicians, and anyone that needs precise touch screen control. Built to high quality standards, with a solid feel resulting in exceptional control, the Hammerhead styluses are priced extremely competitively vis-à-vis virtually identical products.

HTC Leads in 4G with Three New Phones at CES

HTC has delivered the world’s first 4G phones, and at CES 2011 is extending this lead with the announcement of three new 4G devices. With the introduction of the HTC EVO Shift 4G from Sprint, HTC Inspire 4G from AT&T, and HTC ThunderBolt from Verizon Wireless, HTC has cemented its position as the leader in ultra-fast connectivity.

This Tuesday, Sprint announced the HTC EVO Shift 4G, a compact design featuring Android 2.2, HTC Sense, and a full QWERTY keyboard. Continuing Sprint and HTC’s partnership in innovation, the HTC EVO Shift 4G allows you to connect with those most important to you at unprecedented speeds. Additionally, at just $149.99 with a new two year contract and accompanying data plan, the device is the perfect choice for your first 4G phone.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G will be $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and activation on a new two-year contract and data plan. It will be available in all Sprint retail channels, including www.sprint.com and 1-800-Sprint1, on Jan. 9th.

A 4G offering on AT&T’s new HSPA+ network, the HTC Inspire 4G boasts the largest screen (4.3”) from the carrier, as well as Dolby and SRS surround sound, the perfect combination for entertainment on-the-go. Designed with protection in mind, the HTC Inspire 4G is the first U.S. phone to utilize htcsense.com providing ultimate mobile control. In the unfortunate case of a lost or stolen phone, you can pinpoint your cell’s location on a map, and if necessary, wipe all personal data with a single command. This means all user content is deleted at the touch of a button, thus protecting personal and work information. All this is wrapped up by HTC’s unique manufacturing process which carves the shell of the device out of a solid piece of aluminum.

The HTC Inspire 4G will be available in the first quarter of 2011.

As one of the world’s first 4G LTE smartphones worldwide, the HTC ThunderBolt from Verizon Wireless is spearheading HTC’s commitment to introducing new technologies. A 4.3” screen brilliantly shows off pictures taken by the 8 megapixel camera and DLNA capabilities mean HD videos captured on-the-go are easily enjoyed in their native resolution. Additionally, Skype connectivity is embedded deeply within the ThunderBolt experience, bringing Skype’s 100 million users onto a single global platform at your fingertips. Skype integration ushers in a new era of face-to-face mobile communication—the business traveler can check-in with their family before a long flight, parents can video chat with their college freshman and friends can stay connected from across the country. At this time, we are not announcing pricing or availability for the HTC ThunderBolt.
