Mophie Powerstation Go Portable Powerbank Review

Nowadays, almost everyone has a portable battery that they use to charge their phone or tablet, but what happens if your laptop runs out of battery life and you have no access to an electrical socket? Or is your car battery dies on a cold morning when you absolutely have to get to work and you have to get a jump in less than 5 minutes or you will be late? Those little batteries just won’t cut it in those situations. Up for review today is Mophie Powerstation Go.

The Mophie Powerstation Go came in a plain brown box printed with the company name and a list of the included items. Opening the box revealed the charger held in place at the top by a spacer. Further digging reveals an owner’s manual and a cloth black bag just filled to the brim with goodies. Inside the black bag is the charger cord, two car charger cords and the car jump cord. Printed on the back bag are instructions for use to jump your car as well as a quick sketch on how to use the charger for your laptop. The bag is big enough to hold all of the car accessories as well as the charger, so you can store it in your car until you need it! Materials used in the construction was mostly plastic and metal. Quality of materials used, as well as the fit and finish, was very good. It was solidly built and feels it in hand. Also included was the owners’ manual.

I love the design of the Mophie Powerstation Go. The Mophie Powerstation Go comes in a variety of colors. The charger is designed with multiple ways to use it. First is the wireless charger circle at the top of the unit. Just place your phone there and it will connect automatically. Second is the typical three prong outlet. There is only one, but it works to run anything with a need for a wall connector, like your laptop, or a lamp or anything at all… Third are the USB ports. There are two of them for charging your phone or tablet or anything that needs a USB port. The last connector on the device is a port to plug in the included car charger. This is in case you need it to jump your car battery. The last little add in is the included flashlight. Just in case you needed a little light to see by. Each different section of the charger is activated by a push button located right next to the station you want to engage. The only exception to this is the wireless charger station, which doesn’t need to be activated. There is also a led indicator to let you know how charged your charger is. One bar = needs to be charged. This is easy to use and all but foolproof. They almost didn’t need to include the manual!

The charger worked great! We were able to get a complete charge for my laptop as well as having enough juice left to partially charge my LG V40 ThinQ phone. Rated at 44,400mWh, I was not able to get all of that out of the charger, but I was not expecting it.  I estimate I got about 43,000 to 43,500mWh, which is pretty close to full power rating.  While we didn’t have a dead battery to test the jumping feature, we are confident that would work with equal efficiency. Speaking to their rep at CES, I was advised that if fully charged and put in your glovebox incase of an emergency, it would still have enough charge after 2 years to be able to jump start your car.  I find I want to purchase one of these for each of my adult children for Christmas, as it would be an invaluable addition to any car emergency kit. And at an MSRP of only $159 it would be a great gift!

The Mophie Powerstation Go performed exactly as expected. It is a great product that is the perfect complement to anyone’s charging needs. Its built well, and is priced well with an MSRP of only $159.  Based on its design, features, quality and performance, the Mophie Powerstation Go has earned our Editor’s Choice Award!
