The Withings Scanwatch came in a great looking color printed box, with photos and specs of the watch. Opening the box revealed a well-protected watch held in place in a pressed cloth bag. Materials used in the construction was glass, metal, and a rubber band. Quality of materials used, as well as the fit and finish, are excellent. Also included was the charging cable and owner’s manual.

I love the design of the Withings Scanwatch. It has the look and functionality of a classic mechanical dress watch. It has working hour and minute hands. The black faced model, which is the version I received, even has luminated hands. The 316L stainless steel metal case feels very high-end, and very durable. The sensors are on the back of the housing, where they need to be, up against your wrist.

Other important features include a long 30-day battery life.  Water resistance is also an impressive 5 ATM, which is over 165 feet. Divers rejoice! The glass is also Sapphire glass to provide excellent scratch resistance.  The simple operation is managed with the crown.

What also sets it apart from other smart watches on the market is its medical features. I have two brothers who have sleep apnea and one of the two also recently had a heart attack. So these features are critical to me. The Withings ScanWatch can measure blood oxygen levels and sleep disturbances. This can monitor the potential for sleep apnea. It also monitors your heart rate, can detect afib, and send you notifications. So if you have a potential heart issue, you can track it, and see a health professional.

After making sure it’s fully charged, it was time to set it up. Pressing the crown gets you into the menu, and rotation the crown gets you to the various features. After downloading and installing the app, it was time to pair it with my phone. I had a hard time pairing it with my LG V40, but restarting the Bluetooth on my phone quickly solved that problem. With it now paired with my phone, the hands on the watch now showed the correct time.

The app was very simple to use. It walked me through how to use the features. It also helped in setting up which apps I want to get notifications from, as well as my height, weight, age and sex for the health app. Through the app I’m able to track everything. I can see my trends for steps, sleep, breathing disturbances, oxygen saturation, average heart rate, and ECG.  The LCD display is small, but it worked great!  Messages would scroll across the LCD, for texts received, or who was calling.  It’s not as flashy as a full face LCD as most smart watches, but they also don’t get nearly the long battery life as the 30 days with this Withings ScanWatch. The display on the ScanWatch is much smaller, but it works and gets the job done.

What I really like, are the advanced features. As I mentioned earlier, I have a family history of family health issues. In the app I can track my history for heart rate, oxygen, and breathing disturbances. I can take an ECG and oxygen saturation reading at any time with the sensors. And the Withings ScanWatch being clinically approved does give a sense of security.

The Withings ScanWatch proved to be a great performer. It has a classic mechanical functionality and look. Yet also smartwatch functionality. It has a long 30 day battery life, and a nice 2 year warranty for peace of mind. The stainless steel housing and sapphire glass face also provide good durability. Based on its design, features, quality and performance, the Withings Scanwatch has earned our Editor’s Choice Award. For more info and complete specs, check out their website at www.withings.com.

The KVM came in a box with a colored picture of the product on the top. Features of the product on the back with locations of each plug-in on the back. The KVM was secured in place by custom fitted cardboard that housed the cords for the KVM, the KVM, and the power bank. Materials used in the construction was a combination of metal and plastic.  Quality of materials used was as well as fit and finish was very good.  It seemed to be well made. Also included was the owner’s manual in both English and Spanish, and power cord.

The Design for the KVM is pretty simple. On the top it has the VisionTek logo and the power Button. On the front it has an audio jack for your headset or your microphone, a light indicator showing PC1 or PC2, and two USB 3.0 Type-C ports as well as an USB-A 3.0 port, all support up to 5Gbps. The headphone AUX port works and you are able to use that for your needs. The power button also acts as a switch button to be able to give you another option on how to swap your systems.  While there’s not a lot for a KVM switch to do, the VisionTek VT2900 did its job in spades.

In conclusion the VisionTek VT2900 Dual System Dock is a good KVM that will make your management of multiple systems easier.  The 299.99 MSRP is a fair price.  And the build quality is good enough that it should provide you with years of use.  Based on its design, features, quality, and performance, the VisionTek VT2900 has earned our Highly Recommended Award.  For more info and complete specs, check out their website at www.VisionTek.com.

Cobra Unveils New Dual-Mode AM/FM CB Radios with Clearer Audio After Successful Petition with FCC

Marking the biggest change in the CB radio category in four decades, new AM/FM modes will bring improved sound with less background noise for professional and recreational drivers

CHICAGOFeb. 16, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Cobra Electronics today unveils its new line of AM/FM CB radios after spearheading a four-year petition with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to enable FM mode communication on CBs within the United States. Considered the biggest change to the industry since CB radios were expanded from 23 channels to 40 channels in 1977, the new dual-mode AM/FM capabilities are now featured on Cobra's best-selling CB radio models, including the 29 LTD Classic, 29 LTD Chrome, and 19 MINI AM/FM, available for purchase starting today. The 29 LTD NW will be available later this spring.

Cobra Electronics, the leading designer and marketer of award-winning automotive, mobile and consumer electronics, started this journey back in 2016 when the brand petitioned the FCC for a rule change to Part 95 to allow FM mode to be legal for use in CB radio products in the U.S. During the petitioning process, Cobra turned to input from its customers, sources from multiple online CB radio forums, off-road vehicle clubs, and distributors for support behind the change. The result was 100% acceptance from the FCC to allow FM on the CB band in 2021.

"Our team has been on the forefront of working with the FCC since 2016 to make AM/FM CB radios possible," said Gail Babitt, CEO of Cedar Electronics, parent company of Cobra. "The implications this will have on users like professional truck drivers, fleet managers, and local delivery services will be amazing – making communication clearer and more productive than ever while on the road. The change is also not just a revolutionary new accomplishment for Cobra, but the culmination of the hard work and determination from the many parties that went into this endeavor – and will set a new standard of product innovation as we head into the future of CB radio technology."

With their livelihood and safety dependent on the reliability and clarity of communication via CB radio, the inclusion of FM on professional drivers' CB radios cannot be overstated. Previously, CB radios only operated with 40 channels on limited modes: AM and SSB (consisting of Upper Sideband (USB) and Lower Sideband (LSB)). FM mode will lock onto the strongest signal and is less susceptible to the background noise that that can come through on AM.

Current CB radio owners looking for AM/FM capabilities can learn more about Cobra's new CB radios with dual-mode AM/FM at www.cobra.com or at Travel Centers of America, Pilot Companies and Loves Travel Centers throughout the country. For more information on the AM/FM capabilities and Cobra's work behind the FCC ruling, visit www.cobra.com/amfm.
