The Audio Technica ATH-DSR5BT came in a nice looking printed box, with features, specs and photos printed on the box. Opening the box showed a wall protected headphone, sitting in soft cloth covered molded plastic. Materials used in the construction was mostly plastic with some metal. Quality of materials used as well as fit and finish was very good. They felt well made in hand. The buttons also had a good feel and feed back. Also included was the owner’s manual, charging cable, and soft neoprene case, and extra sized ear tips.

I love the around the neck design. It is absolutely convenient when you aren’t using your in ear monitors, the little earbuds just hand there on your neck. The one thing that I didn’t like about them, is that the cord did not retract into the housing. Samsung must have a tight patent on that design, as I haven’t seen another manufacturer have a neckband style where the wire retracts into the housing when not in use. I would think there would be another design that would do something similar, but not yet. But having the earbuds just dangle a little is not a big deal. And having much better sound over the basic sounding Samsung is much better. Maybe someday others will come up with some other design to hold the cable when not in use. But until then it’s not a big deal. Enjoy the better sound. Now it’s time to hear how it sounds.

ACDC-Back in black; cymbals were crisp, clear, and very dynamic. Kick drum had very good punch with great pitch definition and low end extension, play in with authority. Guitar sounded nice and raw. Vocals were very natural with very nice texture.

Justin Timberlake – Sexyback; snaps were extremely crisp and clean with excellent dynamics. Bass beats were deep, hit hard and played with a lot of authority. The vocals were extremely natural with great texture and harmonics, throwing a huge soundstage that was both wide and deep. Imaging was spot on.

Christina Perry- A Thousand Years; piano sounded very natural with nice harmonics. The cello was very warm and smooth with excellent texture and pitch definition. The acoustic guitar was crisp and clean with excellent resolution and detail, being able to hear the plucking of the strings. Vocals were very natural sounding with great timbre and texture, being able to hear the articulation. Soundstage was both wide and deep, with imaging spot on, feeling like I was in the recording studio.

The Audio-Technica ATH-DSR5BT was more of a pleasure to review than expected. While I would have loved to see a retractable cable, I quickly forgot all about it once I started listening to them. The sound was natural, smooth and resolution I have come to love from more expensive IEM's, with a neutral sound signature and big soundstage. Based on their design, features, quality and performance, has earned our Editor’s Choice Award. For more information and complete specs, check out their website at

Sennheiser not only makes a great headphone, but they have been doing so for several decades. No matter what style of headphone you are looking for, Sennheiser has one for you. Up for review today is their Senheiser PNX 550.

Features and specs:

Wearing Style:                                    Headband

Frequency Response (Headphones):   17 - 23,000 Hz

Pick-up Pattern:                                  3-mic Beamforming Array
Operating Time:                                  Up to 30 hours
Weight w/o Cable:                              227g

The Sennheiser PNX 550 came in a great looking color printed box with photos of the headphones and it’s specs. Opening up the box revealed a well protected headphone sitting in a zippered soft case sitting in custom molded foam. Materials used in the construction was mostly plastic with some metal. The quality of materials was very good, as was the fit and finish. Sennheiser is known for making a quality product, and that reputation continues. Also included is the audio cable, charging cable, airplane adapter, 1/4” adapter, and owner’s manual.
I love the design of the Sennheiser PNX 550. They have more of an oval ear cup shape, to give a great comfortable fit over your ears. They collapse to fit well in the soft zipper case for travel. And traveling is where they are designed to excel! They are equipped with both Bluetooth and NFC, for easy connection to your smartphone. The aptX help provide great sound quality of your music. And with the 4 built-in microphones, it is designed to perform well for Adaptive Noise Canceling, and answering calls.  Now let’s see how they perform!

First up is the Bluetooth and hands free testing. The built-in antenna did extremely well! In open air, I was able to go just over 100 feet before I lost signal. Inside, with multiple walls, I did not lose signal until I had gone just over 50 feet. Inside of 50 feet, multiple walls between me an my HTC smartphone didn’t pose a problem.

The built-in mics for hands free calling performed just as well. Phone calls were a cinch. With the Sennheiser PNX 5500 synced, all I had to do was press the answer call button. Calls came through loud and clear. And even better than that, they provided a deep soundstage. My call experience was excellent. The same was also true for the person on the other end of the call. For them, the 4 built-in mics picked up my voice perfectly, as if I was speaking to them with my phone held up to my ear. And even better, the mics didn’t pick up any background noise, such as my TV.

Now it’s time for the Adaptive Noise Canceling. Here the mics did their job equally as well. The Sennheiser PNX 550 was designed for the commuter/traveler. Whether it’s by bus, train, or airplane, that low rumble engine noise can be fatiguing. The PNX 550 performed very well here. Any low bass or rumble was almost entirely gone, by around 90%. Just know that based on the design, it won’t block out background noise completely. So if you’re on a plane and there’s a crying baby in the row behind you…The engine rumble will be gone, but the crying baby will not be.

Last but not least is the music performance. AC/DC: Back in Black- cymbals were crisp and clean. Kick drum was tight with good pitch definition and played with authority. Guitar sounded nice and raw as I’m used to hearing. Vocals were very natural sounding. Soundstage was bigger than expected. Kansas: Carry On Wayward Son – vocals were extremely natural with excellent definition for texture and timbre. Kick drum had great impact with tight bass that also had good low end extension and authority. Drums had good dynamics, the cymbals were crisp and clean. Piano sounded very natural with good harmonics. Soundstage was wide and deep and imaging was very good as well. Fleetwood Mac: Hold Me – Piano was very natural sounding. Vocals were very smooth with nice texture. Percussion was crisp, clean and very dynamic. The cow bell came out loud and clear. Imaging was spot on.

I was very pleased with the Sennheiser PNX 550. They feature a great design, are well built, and the buttons worked well. One was to turn Bluetooth on and off, one was for the Adaptive Noise Canceling, and one was for the sound modes.  The swipes were also simple to use. Thanks to an adequately sensitive side panel, it was easy to pause, play, fast forward or rewind to the songs, as well as adjust the volume. All aspects performed well, and they also sounded great too. It was nice to see Sennheiser is not just sitting on their laurels. They take pride in continuing their positive reputation. With an MSRP of $349, they are worth every penny. Based on their design, features, quality and performance the Sennheiser PNX 5500 has earned our Highly Recommended Award. The AKG N5005 came in a great looking color printed box, with photos and specs of the product. Opening the box revealed quite the presentation! There were two levels to discover. The first provided the IEM ‘s, sound filters, hard zipper case, and serial number badge. The second level showed the additional ear tips, charging cable, and three different cables. All were held in place with custom cut foam. The actual IEM’s were made of a highly polished metal with a black finish on the first half, and a plastic finish on the back. Materials used in the construction was metal and plastic. Quality of materials used, as well as the fit and finish, was excellent! The owner’s manual was also included, as well as a cleaning tool and airline adapter.

When I opened the box, I was blown away by the presentation. Everything had its spot in the custom cut foam. With the filters, you can tailor the sound to your liking, with options for reference, bass boost, mids boost, or high boost. And there is a black polished metal holder for all of the filters that was clearly labeled. The hard zipper case had pockets on both sides to hold all of the accessories. There are six sets of ear tips to give you the best fit. And just so they didn’t leave anything out, there are three sets of cables. You read right…three sets! One is a 2.5 mm cable, one is a 3.5mm cable, and the last is a Bluetooth cable. So you have all of your options covered for any source player, and for either wired or wireless listening. And of course there is also a charging cable.

The design of the AKG N5005 is also spectacular! For low bass, a balanced armature is harder to get the performance as you would from a dynamic driver.  So I have seen many companies use a hybrid design, incorporating a dynamic driver for the lows, and a balanced armature for the mids and highs.  But as with everything else in the design, AKG has taken it to a whole new level! AKG has come up with a 5-way hybrid design which utilizes quad balanced armatures, and a dynamic driver. So there are 2 balanced armatures for the highs, 2 balanced armatures for the mids, and the dynamic driver for the lows. So there are high quality components to provide the best sound, and there’s also the multiple sound filters so you can also customize the sound to your liking. If this aural bliss which the AKG N5005 is poised to deliver is not good enough, AKG also has the looks covered as well. With their exterior black polished metal finish, they will also look like jewelry. Now let’s hear how they sound!

Eric Bibb: Why are People Like That-vocals were silky smooth with very good texture and timbre. Piano was very natural, more so than expected. Bass had very good low end extension and played with a ton of authority. Percussion was really crisp and clean with very good resolution and impact. Harmonica was really dynamic.  Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue- clarinet was incredibly smooth with excellent resolution to hear the woodiness of the reed and tonguing technique. Piano was very natural sounding and extremely well articulated. Brass was extremely dynamic, without appearing brassy. Bassoon had great extension in the midbass and excellent texture. Flute had extremely good air. Imaging was very good, soundstage was big with good depth.  Earth, Wind and Fire: Let’s Groove- vocals were silky smooth like honey, with excellent timbre and pitch definition. Bass was extremely full, deep, clean and hit like a sledge hammer. Percussion was extremely crisp and clean and very dynamic. The claps were also really crisp and dynamic. There were tons of instruments, and they all came through loud and clear. Imaging was spot on, with a big sound stage.  Katy Perry: Dark Horse-vocals were smooth like honey, with excellent resolution of the timbre and texture. Bass was very full, very deep, hit hard and did so with a ton of authority. Claps were also crisp and very dynamic.

When it comes to In Ear Monitor's, AKG didn't just hit it out of the park.  It went past the parking lot as well!  The AKG N5005 provides killer aural candy for your ears, with its 5-way hybrid design, and hardware sound tuning with its custom sound filters for any preference. Add to that the multiple cables to enable use with virtually any source player, including a wireless cable for Bluetooth!  And if that wasn't enough, they have the polished metal finish for a jewelry look.  Excellent build quality, sound, looks, and plethora of accessories, the AKG N5005 is the whole package.  At $999 MSRP, it's a bargain for what you are getting.  No matter your sound preference, AKG has you covered.  based on their design, features, quality, and performance, the AKG N5005 have easily earned our Editor's Choice Award.  For more info and complete specs, check out their website at

June 5, 2018 – DJI, the world's leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, and Axon (Nasdaq: AAXN), the global leader in connected law enforcement technologies, today announced an exclusive partnership, within the digital evidence management industry, to sell DJI drones directly to public safety and law enforcement agencies worldwide through the new Axon Air program. The partnership was announced at the third annual Axon Accelerate conference for more than 1,500 police, security, legal and technology professionals from around the world.

More than 900 American public safety agencies use drones to improve officer safety, support tactical actions, reconstruct traffic collisions, support public safety at large events and perform search-and-rescue missions. At least 130 people around the world have been rescued from peril by drones, proving their value in life-or-death situations.

The Axon Air program allows law enforcement agencies to purchase drones from a trusted partner and links DJI’s drone technology with Axon’s connected data network and services – the same platform that more than 200,000 public safety professionals use today. provides the same rigorous data management system, chain-of-custody controls and security protocols that law enforcement agencies rely on to preserve and protect data from body cameras and in-car video systems. Within the integrity of drone videos is preserved for the protection of police agencies and the public they serve. Drones currently available for sale through the Axon Air program include: Phantom 4 Pro and Matrice 210.

“As the requirements and demands of unmanned aircraft programs grow, Axon is partnering with agencies to build out solutions that meet the complexities and requirements of public safety,” says Axon's EVP of Worldwide Products, Todd Basche. “Together, we will focus on creating situational awareness, advanced evidence collection and program management tools that will allow agencies to manage their drone program alongside their body camera and in-car video systems.”

“DJI’s partnership with Axon allows law enforcement agencies to add drone capabilities and data services through the same trusted provider they rely on for the tools, data and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Michael Perry, Managing Director of North America at DJI. “Law enforcement agencies are rapidly adopting drones for their work, and often need guidance on how to establish a drone program and integrate it into their departments. DJI’s Axon Air partnership will strengthen and enhance law enforcement’s ability to protect public safety, respond to emergencies and save lives.”

Axon will partner with public safety agencies to identify the solutions that meet the demands of their communities and will bring drone video into the Axon Network of people, devices and apps. Interested agencies should reach out to their Axon sales representatives to learn more about how they can adopt this technology today.
