veneers to produce a new level of custom faceplates.

Level 2 custom art gives the consumer total creative control as they supply their own image,
logo or custom creation. Westone designers then scale and enhance the image for optimum fit

ES Exotics use real shell veneers to adorn each earpiece with a unique color and pattern only

Massive Audio TW-12 12" Car Subwoofer Review



It is exciting to see all of the car stereo options when designing or adding to your car stereo. One excellant way to improve the sound is to add a subwoofer. But for some, just having a subwoofer is not enough. It needs to play loud! When I saw their booth at CES, I was impressed with the quality of the products for Massive Audio. When given the opportunity to review a pair of their TW-12's, I jumped at the opportunity.

The Massive Audio TW-12's are a mid-range line of their subwoofer models. Some of their features are typical for a midrange product, such as a typical stamped basket and 500 watts RMS power handling. There are other features that was a pleasure to see in this midrange product, such as the inverted Kevlar cone. I also really liked the overall design. The design of what they call Cone Finger "V" Ultra Light is pretty cool. It supports the inverted Kevlar cone, and its finger cut reduces some of the mass. This in turn reduces weight and resistance. The end result yeilds a more sensitive woofer and gives a better SPL response.

The quality of the Massive Audio TW-12's are also very good. The magnets have a nice chrome finish, with plastic Massive Audio cover over the rear vent, with slots to allow the air to vent through. It adds a nice look for reverse mounting, and worked sufficiently well. While I also prefer a cast aluminum basket, the 500 watts RMS didn't warrant it. The stamped basket was sufficient for the design demands and power handling of the subwoofer. The spider was good with excellent quality stitching of the tinsel leads. The common spring terminals also worked great and were well labeled. It's Cone Finger "V" Ultra Light design under the cone looked pretty cool. The inverted Kevlar cone was excellent, and very stiff for no distortion from cone flex. It is also extremely durable to last for years of abuse. The surrounds seemed a tad thinner than I have seen on other models, but allowed for easy cone movement. The Massive Audio TW-12's did have a great amount of excursion, and air movement.

To test the end result, I turned to a traditional sealed enclosure, giving 1.25 cu ft per subwoofer. Reference gear included a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X991 receiver, Rockford Fosgate 25 to life Power 1000, Vibe Audio Space 6 3D 3-way component system and Alpine SPX-13PRO components. I also torture tested them with a variety of tracks. I started with Backbusters - Tocatta and Fugue. The Massive Audio TW-12's provided excellent depth, was very clean sounding, and actually sounded quite musical. Next up was Justin Timberlake FutureSex- Sexyback. The bass was very nicely tight and punchy. It was a chest punch that you could't help crank up the volume to get more of it. And the Massive Audio TW-12's enjoyed being blasted to deliver more of it! Dead or Alive- You Spin Me Right Round is a good challenge with it's fast beats. For a 12 inch subwoofer, the Massive Audio TW-12's did well on the fast beats, and was just a tad muddy when listening for it. But it was not overly so to where it brought attention to itself. Last but not least was No Doubt- HellaGood. This track was full of bass energy, and was played with lots of authority.

Overall I was impressed with the Massive Audio TW-12's. At their price point MSRP of $249.95 each, they they provided great output and extension with good sound quality. At their price point the resolution was good and they were also pleasantly musical. Based on their quality and performance, the Massive Audio TW-12 has earned our Recommended Award. HDMI® LICENSING, LLC ASSISTS IN PREVENTING COUNTERFEIT HDMI PRODUCTS FROM ENTERING THE U.S. MARKET

Onkyo Debuts Two High-Value Packaged Home Theater Systems and New Dock for iPod/iPhone

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ (2/10/2011) -- Onkyo is pleased to announce the release of two new home-theater-in-a-box (HTiB) receiver-and-speaker systems that combine the convenience of packaged home theater with the audio pedigree of Onkyo. The 7.1-channel Onkyo HT-S5400 and 5.1-channel HT-S3400 offer an exceptional array of features for these price points, and they are built to exacting standards designed to bring the best out of music, movies, and gaming content. The company is also introducing the Onkyo DS-A4 Remote Interactive Dock for iPod/iPhone that is designed to connect to most AV receivers.
The home theater receivers at the heart of these two systems all feature the latest implementation of the HDMI® connectivity standard with support for 3D video, lossless audio from Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™, and an Audio Return Channel. The latter feature sends an audio signal “upstream” from a connected HDTV’s tuner, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable. Along with four HDMI inputs and one output, each receiver includes a generous selection of digital and analog A/V inputs to handle a wide range of playback devices.
The amplifier sections for each of these receivers incorporates a massive transformer, optimum gain volume circuitry, and PLL jitter-cleaning circuitry to preserve signal accuracy. Other features include high-quality TI Burr-Brown audio DACs, a new Advanced Music Optimizer to enhance the fidelity of compressed audio files, and a convenient overlaid on-screen display for adjusting the settings. Both receivers also include Audyssey Dynamic EQ® and Audyssey Dynamic Volume®, two volume and equalization technologies that enable users to enjoy audio content in greater comfort.
The HT-S5400 offers the most extensive feature set. Its two extra audio channels enable it to support Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz, an audio processing technology that allows users to reconfigure the two surround-back channels as “front height” channels and increase the ambience of movies and games. The HT-S5400 boasts slightly superior audio DACs compared to the HT-S3400.
Located on the front panel of the HT-S5400’s receiver is a USB port that offers a direct digital connection for iPod/iPhone. Other highlights of the HT-S5400 include a powered subwoofer and a subwoofer pre-out for greater low-end impact, and Audyssey 2EQ®, which works to adjust the soundstage to the unique dimensions of the user’s listening space. The receiver is complemented by a seven-channel speaker set consisting of mid-size, two-way front LCR speakers and four compact full-range satellites.
The Onkyo HT-S3400 provides a more affordable 5.1-channel HTiB solution that omits the USB port, subwoofer pre-out, and Audyssey 2EQ, but it does include Onkyo’s proprietary Universal Port to enable single-cable connection of Onkyo peripheral devices. A powerful, down-firing subwoofer and five full-range surround speakers are included with the HT-S3400.
The Onkyo DS-A4 Remote Interactive Dock for iPod/iPhone provides audio, video outputs, charging, and full function remote control when used with most AV receivers, and advanced functionality and integration when connected to an Onkyo receiver’s proprietary RI interface jack. The dock is compatible with all current iPod/ iPhone models up to the latest iPhone 4. It has outputs for stereo audio as well as composite and component video. Menu navigation is aided by an On-Screen Display and supplied remote control; RI-enabled systems allow the use of the AV system remote control.

Onkyo Debuts Entry-Level AV Receivers With Internet, Network, and USB Capabilities at Much Lower Prices

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ (2/10/2011). -- Onkyo, a global innovator in hi-fi and home theater, has introduced a line of three new entry-level home theater receivers that include advanced networking capabilities and a 'Made for iPod/iPhone' USB interface for the first time at such low prices. Previously, these features were only available in the US on models with suggested retail prices of $899 and higher. The release includes the 7.2-channel TX-NR609, the 5.1-channel TX-NR509 and the 5.1-channel TX-SR309. The models designated 'TX-NR' are network-capable and all three have front-panel USB connections.
The two network-capable receivers support streaming PC audio and Internet radio, and provide compatibility with Windows® 7 and DLNA. The Internet connection greatly simplifies the process of providing future updates to the receiver’s firmware. These networking models can also take advantage of Onkyo’s free Remote App for iPod or iPhone to control the A/V receiver.
Onkyo has also introduced its UWF-1 Wireless USB Adapter that will be compatible with all Onkyo network-capable receivers with USB and introduced in 2011. It provides an IEEE 802.11b/g/n connection to access music on a home network.
This front-panel USB port also offers a direct digital connection for an iPod or iPhone, along with support for audio playback from USB mass-storage devices. In the case of the TX-NR609 the USB port even support album from your iPod/iPhone. All Onkyo receivers incorporate an implementation of HDMI® that includes compatibility with 3D video, HDMI Thru, and an Audio Return Channel. The latter allows audio content received via an HDTV’s tuner to be sent upstream via HDMI to the receiver, without the need for an extra cable from the display.
Other features shared by these models include PLL jitter-cleaning circuitry to preserve signal clarity; lossless Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ decoding; an overlaid on-screen display for easy adjustment of settings; and a new front panel design.
The most advanced model in this group is the THX® Select2 Plus™-certified TX-NR609, the latest in Onkyo’s extremely popular line of “600 series” A/V receivers. When it comes to video processing, this receiver is the world's first to employ cutting-edge Marvell Qdeo™ to upscale video signals to state-of-the-art 4K resolution. Regardless of the original source resolution, users will be able to enjoy smooth and extremely precise video images on a compatible high-resolution display.

Among its audio-processing highlights, the TX-NR609 supports decoding for Audyssey DSX™. ABOUT THE ZUIKO BRAND

It was in 1936 that the Takachiho Corporation, forerunner of today's Olympus Optical Co., Ltd., introduced its first camera, the Semi-Olympus I.
