The Kokoon Nightbuds came in a nice-looking color printed box. Opening the box revealed a well-protected product held in place in a custom molded cardboard, and in it’s hard zipper case.  Opening the hard zipper case revealed a nice pair of earbuds designed to wrap around your head.  The earbuds are mostly made of plastic, as is the semi-hard cable in a zigzag pattern. The small plastic housing holds the controls, as well as the brains of the product, and has cloth on the face of it for styling.  Quality of materials used was very good, as was the fit and finish.  The hard zipper case also has a cloth exterior to match the styling.  Also included was the charging cable, additional ear tips, and user’s manual.

I liked the design of the Kokoon Nightbuds.  There is a small hard plastic box per se that will go behind your neck.  On top of it are a couple buttons like + and – controls.  Out of this housing comes the semi-hard wires for the nightbuds.  The wires are in a zigzag pattern, which makes them easy to stretch to get the right length for the earbuds.  And with them being semi-hard, they will not get tangled up at night when you sleep as other designs could be affected by with standard wires.  The earbuds are very thin, so when you put them in your ears, they do not stick out at all.  This helps make them comfortable to sleep in, so if you toss and turn at night in your sleep, they won’t stick out of your ears and potentially fall out.  In all it’s a design that works well.

They are also very versatile.  They have sensors built into the earbuds to measure your heart rate and your sleep.  The app that you can download onto your phone, will allow you to monitor your sleep.  The app also provides additional functionality for your sleep, such as providing nature sounds to go to sleep to in lieu of music.  And while they are designed for sleep, they are still Bluetooth headphones that you can use to listen to music whenever you are on the go.  And with a built-in mic, you can even use them for hands free calls.  Now lets see how they work.

The Kokoon Nightbuds were a very comfortable fit. It came with multiple tips to ensure the wearer’s comfort. I never knew that I needed two different sizes for my ears before! The fit snuggly around my head, ensuring they wouldn’t move during the night without the fit feeling tight. They connected easily with my phone but would pair with almost any device. Personally, I tend to listen to Audiobooks while going to sleep. I do that because I adore the sleep timer. But the Nightbuds boasts that they can sense when you have gone to sleep and will turn off your media accordingly. While I can’t verify with 100% accuracy (I was asleep, after all) but I can report that I did not turn on my sleep timer and it was off when I woke up and the book had not gone much further than I could remember hearing. The sound quality, while not groundbreaking, was solid and better than expected. Nothing was muddled or difficult to understand.  The balanced armature drivers did their job very well.

The Kokoon Nightbuds fulfills a need to go to sleep with music, sounds, or white noise, that you may need.  And it does this on an individual basis that would not be disruptive to a significant other.  They also appeared well made, so it should provide years of use.  You can also use them as regular headphones as well.  Based on their design, features, quality, and performance, they have earned our Recommended Award.  For more info and complete specs, check out their website at uk.kokoon.io.

Introducing the Mammoth Klipsch Jubilee Floorstanding Speaker

Introducing the Mammoth Klipsch Jubilee Floorstanding Speaker

Klipsch Jubilee Surpasses the Legendary Klipschorn as Heritage Flagship

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (June 1, 2022) — Klipsch®, a tech-driven premium global audio company, is pleased to announce the new flagship of its award-winning and legendary Heritage series of speakers—the Klipsch Jubilee. The Klipsch Jubilee is the only speaker in the company’s 75-year history to surpass the legendary Klipschorn in its spot at the top of the Klipsch Heritage series.

The Klipsch Jubilee is the final project founder Paul W. Klipsch (PWK) worked on. It was his dream to create a fully horn-loaded speaker that would satisfy the most ardent audiophiles. Originally intended to be the successor to the Klipschorn, PWK soon realized it was much more than that. Twenty-first century advancements in engineering and technology have allowed Klipsch to make his dream a reality.

The Klipsch Jubilee is a fully horn loaded two-way loudspeaker, designed to deliver the ultimate listening experience. It incorporates the latest acoustic technology, including:

  • A patented, horn-loaded, vented, low frequency enclosure that delivers unrivaled dynamics and clean bass from its dual 12” woofers and three 4” ports.
  • An all-new, horn-loaded, compression driver with a 7” axiperiodic titanium diaphragm provides a wide bandwidth for seamless clarity and accuracy.
  • Each component is specifically optimized to operate in its individual pass-band, making it one of the most efficient loudspeakers on the planet.
  • An active crossover network ensures the highest degree of accurate, true-to-life sound reproduction through a built-in digital signal processor (DSP) and equalizer. It enables using separate amplifiers for the high frequency and low frequency speakers, eliminates phase cancellation in the crossover region and may be shelf or rack-mounted.
  • Two standard real-wood veneer finishes — satin black ash and American walnut to complement modern furnishings.

Like the entire range of Klipsch Heritage speakers, Klipsch Jubilee speakers are designed and handcrafted in the USA and carry an unprecedented 10-year warranty. Each speaker is grain-matched using wood veneer panels from the same timber, resulting in a speaker pair that is virtually indistinguishable from the other.

The Klipsch Jubilee speakers (US MSRP $35,000/pr) are now available through Certified Klipsch Heritage dealers. For more information, visit Klipsch.com.

Reliefband Sport Review

We live in an exciting time, with a lot of technology to help us with our lives. Some of it is even medical based. Migraines and anxiety can be a real problem for some, to a point where they can become nauseous. Thankfully now there are products that can help with that. Up for review today is the Reliefband Sport.

Features and specs:

Fast Acting Relief

100% Drug-Free

 Clinically Proven

Works Within Minutes

FDA-Cleared

Zero Side Effects

The Reliefband Sport came in a nice-looking color printed box, with photos and specs of the product. Opening the box revealed a well-protected product, held in place by custom molded foam. Materials used in the construction was mostly plastic, with some cloth and metal. Quality of materials used, as well as the fit and finish, was very good. Also included was the charging cable, owner’s manual, and tube of jell.

I liked the simple design of the Reliefband Sport. It looks like a watch, but it is just a band that you wear on your wrist. It is designed to treat nausea and vomiting that is caused by migraines, anxiety, hangovers, car, sea, or air sickness, even pregnancy and chemotherapy. The design is simple in that it just has a couple electrodes on the back of the band. These electrodes provide stimulation to the nerve, and you adjust the level of stimulation as needed. It’s the stimulation that treats the nausea and vomiting. And even if the effect is not severe enough to trigger vomiting or nausea, it is supposed to help. My daughter suffers from anxiety really bad, so I’m excited to see how it will help her.  Here is what she had to say about it:

“I didn’t get the relief band working the first time. I did feel a weird sensation but I only ended up getting a headache and it wouldn’t stay on. Once I got it done right was when I really felt it. It was a good thing, since I’m pretty sure I forgot to take my anxiety pill this morning. My reaction to the wrong way was it would actually be giving me headaches. They would slowly go away after taking the band off, though. Yet even wearing it the wrong way actually still helped with the anxiety. Now, what I did wrong was that I missed a step and messed up on the other. Once I did it correctly, I could tell it was working. There was a tingling feeling from my palm and middle finger. It had distracted me while I was working. So I would recommend not wearing it on your dominant hand. It’s a little too early to tell if it really does help with migraines. However, I did have some pressure around my head. My brain knew it was being rewritten. I did wear it while I was shopping because I tend to be a bit edgy if I’m not home before dark. Wearing this, I felt I could easily rationalize my thoughts and have them just fade away. So far, I'm liking this.

I’ve learned two things with this stomach bug. One, that nausea isn’t my body tricking my brain into thinking I might vomit. It can be a sudden warning that it is gonna happen. Two, that the relief band won’t stop the nausea if it’s because you’re sick.

It is the second day of my period and I think I’ve gotten all the information I need on the relief band. Now with the bad cramps I also get migraines and nausea. And with it saying that it helps that associated with pregnancy, one would think that it can help with these symptoms. Now it did turn my migraine into a slight headache. However, it did not prevent nausea. So here is what I have to say about it. First off, it’s only helpful for what is written on the box: Anxiety, physician-diagnosed migraines, hangovers, car sickness, sea sickness, air sickness, pregnancy, chemotherapy, and post-operative.

Anxiety is different from person to person. In my case, there are moments where my mind tricks my body into thinking that I’m sick in order to get away from the troubling situation. The relief band stops this and keeps me calm. All the negative thoughts I have during an attack have now become silent. The applying gel can be itchy, so I have to take the band off after several hours of use. The settings on the intensity indicator is important. You only need to have it set to the level where you only feel slight tingling. Having it any higher doesn’t make the treatment any better. It will only make the sensations painful. Yes, this is very helpful in what it’s designed for and I highly recommended it. But at the same time, I think it shouldn’t be heavily relied on. If that seems to be the case, that’s when I say that you should go see a doctor on whatever is causing the anxiety or vomiting. In short, this is a bandage, not a cure.”

All-in-all, the Reliefband Sport proved to be an effective product that did help. It is also a simple and well-made product that should give years of use. Based on its design, features, quality and performance, it has earned our Highly Recommended award. For more info and complete specs, check out their website at www.reliefband.com.

PSB Speakers Celebrates 50 Years of Delivering High Value Hi-Fi Sound

Header image

Established in 1972, ground-breaking Canadian loudspeaker brand will celebrate its 50th anniversary with contests, events, and a surprise announcement

Pickering, Ontario, Canada, May 16, 2022— PSB Speakers, the loudspeaker company that, more than any other, create the “Canadian Sound”, is celebrating 50 years of delivering high value hi-fi speakers at the intersection of science-based sound reproduction and musical enjoyment. Founded in St Jacob’s, Ontario, in the summer of 1972 by classically-trained violinist and self-taught acoustics designer, Paul Barton, and a couple of his high school friends, PSB Speakers soon became a pioneer in marrying psychoacoustics research with loudspeaker design.

The scientific approach Barton took in designing loudspeakers was rare at the time, and over the course of the late 1970s and early 1980s, he conducted thorough and detailed measurements of loudspeakers at the National Research Council (NRC) in Ottawa, Canada, utilizing its state-of-the-art anechoic chamber and instruments to perfect the sound signature of his products. In spending so much time in and around the laboratories at the NRC, Barton found himself embedded with some of Canada’s leading scientific researchers in the areas of psychoacoustics and acoustic measurement, including becoming a close personal friend to world-renowned Dr Floyd Toole, whom he would collaborate with until Toole’s later move to California. The acoustics research Barton helped to pioneer and commercialize would eventually become common industry practice, and the foundational principles first discovered by this research continue to be the basis of much of speaker design today.

“As a musician and acoustics designer, it has been such an honour to work with some of the top scientific minds in the field over the decades,” says Barton. “In academic research, like what was happening at the NRC, it wasn’t uncommon for research to get published and then just gather dust on a shelf somewhere. But I got the unique opportunity to take that research and turn it into real products that PSB customers could enjoy their favourite music on, and that has been the most satisfying thing for me throughout these 50 years.”

The brand’s anniversary celebrations kick off with a virtual live event on June 1, 2022, at 4:00PM EDT (1:00PM PDT, 9:00PM BST, 10:00PM CEST), and will feature an intimate conversation with Paul Barton moderated by Doug Schneider, Founder of SoundStage!. Event registration opens on May 16, 2022, at psbspeakers.com/50years and attendees will not only have the chance to submit their questions to the PSB team for the live Q&A with Barton, but they will also be the first to watch a documentary of the brand, specially produced for the 50th anniversary, which will be released to the rest of the world 24 hours later on June 2, 2022. Friends of PSB Speakers, including IsoAcoustics and Bluesound, have offered up some exciting door prizes, and there will be a grand prize draw for a pair of PSB Speakers AM 5 Powered Bookshelf Speakers at the end of the event.

“PSB Speakers, despite all of the outstanding reviews it receives for its products, is in many ways still a hidden gem of a brand,” explains Gordon Simmonds, CEO of Lenbrook International, the parent company of PSB Speakers. “The documentary is our way of reinforcing the brand’s incredible story and scientific contributions to the speaker industry so it can be appreciated not just by those who already follow the brand, but also by new audio consumers that are looking for great value products for their mobile and modern lifestyles.”

Filmed and produced over a four-month period in and around Toronto, the documentary runs approximately 20 minutes and offers an intimate glimpse into the brand’s founding, its expansion, Barton’s legacy, and the brand’s exciting future. It features interviews with Barton about his childhood influences and personal anecdotes, interspersed with perspectives from inside and outside the company, including from Simmonds, as well as from a former dealer and now Chief Strategy Officer of Lenbrook, John Banks; Canadian business journalist Gordon Brockhouse; Headphone Category Manager, Matt Simmonds; and Schneider, who got to know Barton while at the NRC himself, conducting speaker measurements for his publication’s reviews. Visually, the documentary is peppered with archival photos, videos, and mementos over the decades, deftly weaving in stories about some of the brand’s most iconic and popular products. It is a fitting tribute to a brand that, in the documentary, Schneider calls the “grandfather of the Canadian loudspeaker industry”.

The celebrations continue into the month of June, when PSB Speakers goes back to its roots – the love of live music from Barton’s childhood that inspired him to pursue a career in acoustics. PSB Speakers is committed as a Main Stage sponsor for the 2022 Northern Lights Festival Boréal, a music festival happening in Sudbury, Ontario, that is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. Small town Canada has produced some of the world’s most enduring musical acts and these two Canadian musical legends – PSB Speakers and the Northern Lights Fesitival Boréal – will join forces in a digital campaign in the weeks leading up to the festival to promote the festival’s exciting line-up of Canadian talent.

The anniversary celebrations will culminate in a very special announcement from the brand on July 1st, coinciding with Canada Day.
