PUR-600, PUR-800, and PUR-1000 IEM's from Pure Sound

Up for review are some IEM's from Pure Sound. They are model number's PUR-600, PUR-800, & PUR-1000. As with most models, the more expensive models offer higher performance. The Pure IEM's appear to be good quality IEM's as well. Upgrading to each higher priced model gives increased performance. The $50 MSRP PUR-600 has improved treble response. The $75 MSRP PUR-800 has increased midrange performance. And finally the $100 MSRP PUR-1000 has increased bass performance.

The packaging was good, with a clear plastic box that gives you a good look at the IEM's The bottom of the box has the printed material that shows the performance on a graph, details, and specs for that model. Construction appears good and on par with its price point, with the driver and cord made of a good quality with cloth covered cables. Accessories include additional ear tips, and a cloth carrying bag.

It's features and specs are:

Impedance: 16 ohms
Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz
Max Power: 65 mw
Titanium Speaker
1.2 Meter Cord
Gold Plated Plug

All of the models seem put together fairly well. They all have a smooth finish, and cloth covered cables. The housing on the PUR-600 is actually quite small, and each model up gets a little bigger. They all have gold plated tips. The PUR-800 and PUR-1000 also has in-line volume control. All models also include a tie clip, a cloth carrying bag, and two extra pairs of rubber ear tips. That way you have the size that best fits you.

With the listening test, I first started with Metallica- Nothing Else Matters. The PUR-600 sound was fairly clean. The highs sounded a tad tinny at times. Vocals sounded natural. Like the 600's, the PUR-800 sounded just a tad tinny at times and a tad bright at times, but did sound a bit smoother and had a bit fuller sound. The
PUR-1000 highs were not as tinny but not as clean either. Bass was definitely more emphasized. They were also not as smooth sounding as the PUR-600's.

Next I turned to Sean Paul- Get Busy for bass response. The PUR-600 had fairly good resolution and good sounding vocals. Bass was there, but not with much authority.
The PUR-800 had fairly good resolution again. Vocals were more emphasized as well as other mids. Bass again was there, but not with a lot of authority. The PUR-1000 had
better bass output, but the vocals sounded a bit harsh. Resolution was again fairly good. Volume was also a bit louder as the larger driver was more efficient.

Lastly I went to Junior Wells- Why Are People Like That. The PUR-600 Sounded quite natural with a good sized soundstage. The harmonica was nice and crisp. Resolution was also good. The PUR-800 had good resolution again. Piano sounded fairly natural. Mids were again accentuated, however they just sounded a bit over the top at times. With the PUR-1000, bass is definitely emphasized, and vocals were not quite as natural sounding. Harmonica still sounded nice and crisp. Piano sounded fairly natural.

Overall the sound was pretty good, and about on par for the price points. They are unique however in their emphasis on different sound with each model. The $50 PUR-600 emphasized treble, the PUR-800 emphasized midrange, and the PUR-1000 emphasizing bass. Based on the sound you prefer, you would more than likely know which model would be best for you!

With that being said, I was a bit surprised with my preference. I tend to like a lot of bass. So while I predicted that I would like the PUR-1000 best, I was wrong. I actually to my surprise preferred the overall sound of the PUR-600 model the best. Only it did not have the amount of bass that I like.

The PUR-600, PUR-800, and PUR-1000 are nice looking IEM's that sound ok, look good and appear to be put together fairly well. I really like the cloth covered cables.
