The Cobra 75 WX ST came in a great looking color printed box with images and specs of the product. Opening the box revealed a well protected product held in place by custom molded cardboard. Materials used in the construction was mostly plastic with some metal. Quality of materials, as well as the fit and finish was very good. It felt like a well made product in hand. Included was the hand held mic, connector box, installation hardware, and owner’s manual.

Cobra has some other great CB radios, but they don’t work as well with the newer modern trucks. CB Radios aren’t as popular as they used to be, but there’s still a use for them. I got a new truck a couple years ago, a 2017 Nissan Titan. I put in a new sound system, and was thinking it was time for a new CB for it. But there was not a good place for it.

CB radios have the mic and the receiver. But looking at my dash, I asked myself…ok, where’s the CB receiver going to go. There really wasn’t a place for it. Well, I thought, so much for having a CB. But then when I saw Cobra at CES, I was told about their Cobra 75 WX ST. It’s Cobra’s answer to the newer vehicle.

I absolutely love the design of the Cobra 75 WX ST. Instead of having the receiver body that includes all of the electronics, they have moved all of that into the hand held microphone. There’s two main components to the radio. There is the handheld mic, and the connector for the external antenna, and the connector for the microphone card. This small connector box easily gets mounted out of the way under the dash. It’s out of the way and unseen. All of the controls that are on the typical receiver, such as volume channels, memory, LED display etc, have been moved to the hand held mic.

So if you have a modern vehicle with no space on the dash for a CB Radio, no worries. The Cobra 75 WX ST has you covered. It takes up no dash space. The connector box gets installed under the dash out of the way. The hand held microphone is installed on the side of the dash, not as hard to find a space for it. And all of the controls are relocated to the mic. So the mic is a little bulkier than normal, but not by much, and it works well. If you want to use the CB, just grab the mic, and all of the controls are conveniently located at your fingertips.

It’s an overall ingenious design, and it works very well. And it also performed extremely well! LCD display was sufficiently bright and easy to read. Volume was easy to adjust with a round rotary knob. The channel up and down buttons on the left side were also simple to use. The other buttons on the front such as scan and memory worked great too. And I loved the soundtracker noise reduction feature. Using that with the squelch control knob, and the static noise that is common for CB radios was almost completely gone. I had some great conversations with some truck drivers, and they came through loud and clear, and they could hear me great as well. And I was surprised at how well the internal speaker also performed. It sounded loud and clean. Easily sufficient for any conversation. And if you want louder volume, there’s even a port on the connector box for an extra speaker that you can mount in your vehicle’s cabin.

The Cobra 75 WX ST is fairly simple in design and performed in spades! With an MSRP of only $129.95, it’s a bargain and is a perfect design for use in newer vehicles. Based on it’s design, features, quality and performance, the Cobra 75 WX ST has earned our Editor’s Choice Award. For more info and complete specs, check out their website at www.cobra.com.
