MONSTER CELEBRATES MILES DAVIS’ 85TH BIRTHDAY WITH REMIXED SKETCHES OF SPAIN DVD AND CD, PLUS “MILES DAVIS TRUMPET” HIGH-PERFORMANCE HEADPHONES

-- Fans Can Now Experience Davis’ Music in Ways They Never Could Before; Innovative “Jazz-Tuned” Headphones Feature World’s Smallest Driver; Aesthetic Design Cues Taken from Trumpet; Created in Conjunction with Miles Davis Properties, LLC --

NEW YORK, NY, JUNE 22, 2011— Monster, renowned for its many advanced consumer electronics accessories and fast becoming one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-performance headphones, is proud to announce that it has teamed up with Miles Davis Properties, LLC to celebrate Miles Davis’ 85th birthday this year with a variety of product launches that will allow fans to get closer to the music and style of the iconic artist, and experience his music in ways they never could before.

Notably, Monster today announced the upcoming debut of a special “higher definition” DVD release of Miles Davis’ seminal “Sketches of Spain” album, remixed in full 5.1 DTS surround sound, as well as in High Resolution PCM stereo on a single DVD disc. The “Sketches of Spain” DVD will be available beginning in August 2011 at Magnolia Home Theater stores across the country (SRP: $19.98).

In addition, Monster’s “Miles Davis Trumpet” headphones, created in conjunction with Miles Davis Properties, LLC and available in August (SRP: $329), will be offered in a specially packaged set along with the “Sketches of Spain” in a newly remixed and remastered version in Monster High Definition Headphone Surround (HDHS), specially engineered to capture the music’s true harmonic depth and resonant tonal characteristics. With no extra accessories or gadgets required, listeners will be able to play the HD Headphone Surround CD on their computer, home theater/stereo system, or download the stereo files for mobile listening. Both the DVD and HDHS CD release of “Sketches of Spain” will allow fans to experience Miles’ music like never before, with the sounds literally surrounding them in a virtual 360 degree soundscape.

Noel Lee, The Head Monster, remixed “Sketches of Spain” for DVD and HDHS CD with invaluable assistance from Grammy nominated mixing engineer Dave Rideau. Both remixes were done starting with a pristine source – the original 3-channel non-equalized master recordings. Lee and Rideau made it their goal not to simply reproduce the original recording, but to recreate the three-dimensional sonic environment of the actual session.

What They Are Saying About the “Sketches of Spain” Remixes…

Head Monster Noel Lee…

“We used photographs of the recording dates in 1959 in Columbia Records’ 30th Street Studio to figure out the physical location of the various instruments and of Miles himself. We wanted to take the listener in a virtual time machine, so the end result is the most realistic, ‘you-are-there’ experience one could imagine.”

Vince Wilburn, Jr., Miles Davis’s nephew and drummer during the 1980s...

“When I first heard the Monster remix of Sketches, I actually felt like I was sitting right there in the middle of the orchestra,” adds “I know how that can be, sitting in that sweet spot, behind the drum kit—it’s very emotional and this remix recreates that feeling.”

Mixing engineer Dave Rideau…

“Gil Evans does a count off at the start of ‘Concierto,’ and you can hear the rustle of the sheet music as the musicians get ready. This has never been heard before, and certainly not with this clarity or detail. This is extremely dynamic music—it can go from a whisper to a roar several times in one piece, and using the best of today’s digital technology, this surround sound remix captures the range of the performance more completely than ever before.”

Reference-Quality Audio Performance

The new Miles Davis Trumpet headphones feature a uniquely jazz-inspired style, with aesthetic cues taken from Miles’ trumpet itself, including mouthpiece shaped earpieces and a striking gold/brass finish, with a Miles Davis silhouette and etched signature on the cord. The headphones also come with a special magnifier that allows users to better see the miniature laser-etched Miles Davis signature and Monster logo on the trumpet housing.

Designed in every way to be as revolutionary as the iconic musician, Miles Davis Trumpet headphones are precision-tuned to reproduce the subtle nuances and unique acoustic tones of jazz. Their reference-quality audio is made possible thanks to key Monster innovations, including a new design that allows the earpiece to rest more comfortably and deeper within the wearer’s ear canal, enabling a perfect fit, superior isolation and ultimate performance, so all music can be heard with exceptional clarity and presence.

Miles Davis Trumpet headphones are being made available with the Monster ControlTalk™ headphone cable*, which can be used with iPhone™ and iPod® for music playback control as well as to take hands-free calls with iPhone and many smartphones. The specially created Miles Davis Trumpet ControlTalk on-cable box, customized to resemble the three piston valves of a trumpet, features an integrated high-grade microphone and answer button and allows users to access their music and answer phone calls without having to reach into their pocketbook, backpack or pocket.

In addition, Miles Davis Trumpet headphones come with Monster’s new high performance “SuperTip™” eartips that offer superior noise isolation, while improving the overall performance by preventing sound leakage. The key to the effectiveness of SuperTip eartips is a patent-pending engineered material that provides a secure custom seal to help eliminate unwanted noise. The end result is astoundingly clean, tight audio response and great-sounding music that can be listened to without fatigue for hours and hours.

Finally, Monster’s innovative cable management system features a convenient designed on-cable slider and clip that keeps weight off the headphones so they stay snug in the user’s ears. The debut of Monster Miles Davis Trumpet headphones is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to improve the quality of the portable audio experience.

Notably, Miles Davis Trumpet headphones come with the industry’s most unique guarantee. In addition to the warranty on manufacturer defects, Monster is offering a one-time Limited Lifetime Replacement Guarantee with Miles Davis Trumpet headphones – even if users accidentally break the headphones themselves, Monster will replace them once for no charge.
