NEXT GENERATION OF SAMSUNG’S FLAGSHIP SMARTPHONE PORTFOLIO - GALAXY S II – READY FOR U.S. ARRIVAL

Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone in the world coming soon to AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile

DALLAS, August 30, 2011 — Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile)1, the No. 1 mobile phone provider in the U.S., today announced the Galaxy S™ II will be available with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile starting this fall. The U.S. launch follows the successful debut of the Galaxy S II in Europe and Korea, where consumers bought 5 million smartphones in 85 days, making the device Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone ever. The next generation Galaxy S II portfolio packs industry-leading hardware and software and the latest version of the Android smartphone platform into each device. The Galaxy S II portfolio is highlighted by Samsung’s own Super AMOLED Plus display technology, a powerful dual core application processor and a robust array of entertainment, messaging, social networking and enterprise experiences.

“The unveiling of the Galaxy S II is a landmark achievement for Samsung, our carrier customers and consumers,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile. “Five million Galaxy S II smartphones have been sold around the world and that number increases every day. We believe the cutting-edge design, features and user experience of this innovative device will share the same level of success in the U.S.”

The three smartphones within the Samsung Galaxy S II portfolio are designed with an ultra-thin form factor and brilliant Super AMOLED Plus touch screen display. Recent independent studies showed that Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus display technology was preferred 2 to 1 over any competing display technology in the market today2, thanks to touchscreen’s ability to deliver brilliant colors with the most contrast, providing a vivid and crisp viewing experience.

All three Galaxy S II smartphones are enabled with 4G3 service for fast connectivity speeds and dual core processors for seamless web surfing, console-like game play and rapid content downloads.

Personalized Customization

The Galaxy S II portfolio features an improved Samsung TouchWiz user interface, providing superior multi-tasking, application management, and customization and includes Live Panel which provides a magazine-like widget view for immediate access to weather, social updates, email, news, photo gallery and more, all of which can be customized on the home screen. All of the Samsung Live Panel widgets can be positioned and re-sized to create rich, visual home screens and provide one-touch access to the information consumers use most. Touchwiz UI also includes Quick Panel which allows instant access to commonly used device settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and other key device features. The TouchWiz UI notification service on the lock screen notifies users to the number of unread or new text messages, and missed calls that have been sent to you on your Galaxy S II. Users get direct access to missed calls and text messages from the lock screen by swiping the notification boxes without having to navigate through the applications menu.

Each of the Galaxy S II devices feature six-axis motion sensing using an accelerometer and gyroscope that support advanced touch screen gestures, including motion to zoom in on images, silence a ringing phone, and even move widgets on the menu screens.

Premium Content

Galaxy S II will also include Samsung’s popular Media Hub movie and TV content service. Media Hub features thousands of new release and top-grossing titles from major Hollywood studios and leading television networks, including NBC Universal, Paramount, MTV, Warner Bros., CBS and FOX. The content service has added a new feature called Media Hub Show, allowing the user to playback Media Hub content on a TV through an HDMI cable connected to a Galaxy S II dock or HDTV Smart adapter accessory. Users can share purchased to own film or TV content across up to five devices enabled with Media Hub at no additional cost. Alternate premium video options include Android Movies, Netflix, and others which are available to download from Android Market™.

Samsung’s Social Hub service on the Galaxy S II transfers email, instant messaging, contacts, calendar and social network connections, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, into “Feeds” and “Messages” folders that can be either separated into separate tabs or combined into comprehensive lists.

Samsung’s Galaxy S II portfolio is powered by the open and innovative Android Gingerbread platform, complete with full support of Google Mobile Services including Android MarketÔ with access to more than 250,000 applications, Google SearchÔ, Google MapsÔ, GmailÔ, YouTubeÔ, Google TalkÔ and more.

In addition, Galaxy S II and the Android Gingerbread platform support an array of cloud services including content sync across the Galaxy branded portfolio with Google services (Books, Music, Videos, Email, Calendar) Samsung Media Hub and cloud photo sync through Picasa Web Albums and Google+.

Uncompromised Convergence

The Galaxy S II portfolio offers a number of convergence features to share content in tethered and wireless formats. With Samsung’s All Share application, which enables inter-device connectivity through DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) technology, users can send user-generated video content wirelessly to other DLNA-enabled devices, such as TV’s, monitors and laptops, allowing for an interactive entertainment experience. The TV Remote App, also available through Android Market, transforms the Galaxy S II into a remote control for several top models of Samsung HDTVs. Smart Show and Media Hub Show enables the user to tether an HDMI over micro USB connection to an HDTV to play user generated or Media Hub DRM protected content respectively directly from the Galaxy S II device to the HDTV screen. Samsung Kies Air service allows users to connect their PC or Mac via WiFi without a preloaded application to easily view and manage your content. Users can transfer files, manage contacts and messages and send SMS from the PC.

Optimal Enterprise Solutions

Galaxy S II integrates a range of enterprise solutions that expand the business capabilities of the devices. The Galaxy S II portfolio provides support for exchange device management policies, offers increased security of data and services and enables mobile conferencing while on the go. Premium Accessories Portfolio

A multimedia dock is the perfect smart accessory, allowing users to transform their Galaxy S II into a home stereo by connecting speakers or plugging it into a home entertainment system via the 3.5mm stereo connector. Its ability to orient with the phone while docked makes it easy to view content in portrait and landscape mode, while the auto-launch of its Desk Dock UI makes for easy access to music, video and other applications.

Additional accessory solutions include:
•Vehicle dock: The dock charges the phone while docked to ensure uninterrupted GPS usage on long car rides. The dock is windshield or dashboard mountable and includes the sophisticated Vlingo Voice Talk, allowing users to enjoy hands-free control of their Galaxy S II.

Use on the go to connect the Galaxy S II to a TV, monitor, or projector to view purchased Media Hub content, videos, presentations, games, or internet on a big HD screen, or listen to downloaded music from the phone on a home entertainment system.

Samsung Droid Charge Review by Kirk Spencer

Let me take just a brief moment to introduce myself. I'll be the new cell phone review specialist here at Stereowiseplus.com. I'm a software developer for Android and I participated in the original Android Developer's Challenge back in 2008. I've got a burning passion for anything dealing with smart phones. My main goal is to exponentially increase the coverage we offer for cell phone reviews and information here on Stereowiseplus.com, starting with the Samsung Droid Charge.

With that out of the way, today's review is of the Samsung Droid Charge. This phone is available through Verizon Wireless and it runs a customized version of the Android operating system (TouchWiz). Here's a list of the phone's specs:

Carrier
Type Verizon
Platform
Operating System Android 2.2, Froyo
SAR value - Head (W/kg) SAR Value: Body 0.75 W/kg

Display
Internal Display Size (inches) 4.3" Display
Touch Screen Yes
Color
Color Mirror Gray
Battery
Battery, Standby (hours) Standby Time: Up to 280 Hours
Battery, Talk Time (hours) Usage Time: Up to 660 Minutes
Size
Product Dimensions (inches) 5.11" x 2.66" x 0.46"
Weight
Weight 5.04 Ounces

Right now The Droid Charge is $169 on a two year contract through Verizon Wireless. That's not a bad price considering what you're getting.

Operating System

You might be wondering why I'm taking time to write about the operating system. Let me explain. Samsung has taken advantage of the open source nature of Android and they've customized it to provide a unique android experience. It is sometimes difficult to attract customers on the hardware alone, so most cell phone manufacturers that have android phones also have their own flavors of the operating system.

I'm personally not a huge fan of TouchWiz, but thankfully there are plenty of customizations that can help. LauncherPro, ADW, Go Launcher to name a few. The beauty of Android is the flexibility it gives to the users. If you don't like the dialer that came with the phone, there are plenty to chose from.

The one thing you're left with is software that can't be uninstalled. Applications installed in the system folder of the phone cannot be uninstalled without root access. Unfortunately Samsung/Verizon ship the Droid Charge with apps installed in the system folder that not everyone will want or use. The ones I noticed that can't be uninstalled are:

1. Amazon Kindle
2. Bitbop
3. Blockbuster
4. City ID
5. Lets Golf 2
6. Rock Band
7. Slacker Radio
8. TuneWiki
9. V CAST Media Manager
10. VZ Navigator

Lastly I would like to comment on the search feature. A previous Samsung phone (Fascinate) was shipped with the search button pointed to Bing rather than Google. It's nice to see despite the potentially unwanted additional software, users at least have a choice now for their dedicated search button.

Screen

Samsung is known for their beautiful screens. The Droid Charge's 4.3 inch display is no exception. If you've never seen how vibrant their screens are, you're missing out. The colors are extremely vivid and give it almost a glowing look because of how bright they are. The only negative thing I noticed about the colors had to do with white. White on the Droid Charge is not as bright as any of the other phones I compared it to. Honestly I don't think you will notice it too much unless you're holding the phone up next to another phone and both happen to have white screens being displayed. Having said that, everybody's tastes are different and I recommend you compare the screens of several phones if you're in the market for a new phone.

The Droid Charge comes with Corning's Gorilla Glass which is a really nice feature. Gorilla Glass is “lightweight, and highly damage-resistant” (http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/). Another thing I noticed was the number of fingerprints on the screen...or should I say the lack thereof? I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between the Gorilla Glass used on the Droid Charge vs something like the original Droid. The screen doesn't suffer from finger print smudges anywhere near as bad as other phones I've used.

Benchmarks

Benchmarks are a good gauge on how a phone will perform, but they cannot always be taken as gospel. There are times when a benchmark will run better on one phone with the same processor as another phone built by a different manufacturer. The performance difference usually has something to do with the drivers, or the benchmark being optimized for that phone/hardware. The benchmark results here demonstrate relatively well how the phone performs:

There are a few things here that I would like to talk about. The first thing that stands out to me is the 3D graphics capability of the phone. The score certainly reflects my experience with the phone. I played plenty games and the phone performed exceptionally well. One of my favorites is Dungeon Defenders. It's a rather demanding game but I was still able to play it. All of the 2D games I threw at it played perfectly.

For the Droid Charge's generation, most of the other scores are somewhat average, only slightly outperforming other phones in the 2D graphics. The SD write speed is only slightly slower as well as the CPU float-point score and the CPU integer score.

Call Quality

Having previously owned the Samsung Fascinate, I am glad to say that the call quality of the Droid Charge is improved. All the phone calls I've made had clear audio. I didn't have any trouble hearing the person on the other end and they could hear me without any trouble or distortion to the audio.

4G

4G is definitely a strong point for this phone. I love seeing such fast internet connection speeds on such a small device. Being somewhat of a nerd and an internet junkie, it always puts a smile on my face knowing that I'm connected with speeds capable of downloading over 100 MBs in a very short amount of time. I use Audible frequently and as an additional test to the 4G antenna on the phone I downloaded several audio books. I was impressed with how quickly they downloaded. These speed tests back me up:

The only drawback to using 4G is the drain on the battery. The increased speeds do come at a bit of a cost. I was willing to accept the cost since it meant I was listening to my favorite audio books quicker than I would have thought possible and browsing the internet on my phone with the same speed I get at my house on a dedicated line.

Cameras

A good cell phone camera is never going to replace a good DSLR, but they sure have come a long ways. The Droid Charge comes with an 8 mega pixel camera. I wasn't really concerned with how many mega pixels it was. I wanted to see how well it takes pictures and the quality of the video it takes. With plenty of good light, the camera takes stunning pictures for such a small lens. As with most cell phone cameras, the less light there is when taking pictures the more the quality will suffer.

The front facing camera is a nice feature if you know others that have front facing cameras. You can also use the front facing camera to take self portrait shots. I’ll spare everyone from the several self portraits of yours truly. Unfortunately we did not get to test any kind of face to face phone calls, but it’s another nice option on the Droid Charge.

Mirror Mode

The Droid Charge has a dedicated HDMI port that supports HDMI out mirror mode. Connect a Droid Charge up to a 1080p screen and you've got a multimedia device that can stream videos rented from the new Android Market, play games and show off pictures and videos to the family. It’s rather impressive to see some of the higher quality Android games up on the big screen, using the phone as a controller.

Buttons

Most of the Android phones I've used have capacitive buttons for menu, home, back and search. I was slightly turned off by the fact that I had to press a button, however I can say that if you've ever accidentally pressed one of those capacitive buttons, you'll be glad to know that it doesn't happen with the Droid Charge. There is a slight bevel to the buttons and they have a slight brushed look to them.

The phone has standard rocker volume buttons on the left side and a power button on the right side. Sorry, no dedicated camera button for those of you that enjoy having a dedicated button for taking pictures.

Shell

Here are a few more pictures of the phone to give you an idea of its overall look. One thing I noticed is that the sides and back of the phone are extremely slippery. I tend to baby my phones. Having a phone that’s so slippery was quite scary. I was constantly concerned about it slipping out of my hands. You might want to consider getting a case that offers more grip for this phone.

The phone is thicker than other Samsung phones, but that's to be expected for now with any 4G phone.

Battery

Battery life of almost any phone is largely related to the usage of the phone. Heavy 4G usage will drain the battery quickly. Turning the brightness all the way up will drain the battery quickly. Thankfully the Droid Charge comes equipped with a moderate battery. The battery capacity is 1600 mAh. On top of the everyday usage (texting, phone calls and internet usage) I played games quite a bit and pushed the brightness all the way up for the entire time I was using the phone. I could last about half a day like this before I would need to charge the phone. If you're a power user you might consider looking into an extended battery; however for an average user you will probably get a full day out of a single charge.

Conclusion

Overall the phone's performance was about what I expected given the specs. There are plenty of next gen phones coming out towards the 4th quarter this year that will dominate any phones currently on the market. However, if you're looking for a snappy phone with a beautiful screen, fast connection to the internet, plenty of storage space and a reasonable price tag then you should consider taking a close look at the Droid Charge. We're awarding the Droid Charge our Recommended Award for its considerable list of features, performance, and the affordable price. Intel i3-2100 Processor Review by Kirk Spencer

When building a new computer one of the most important decisions has to do with which processor to buy. Most of this will depend on what the computer will be used for. However, we tend to want fast responsive computers. We're here to tell you that you can have a fast computer without breaking the piggy bank. Intel's i3-2100 which launched earlier this year is the perfect candidate:

Essentials
Status Launched
Launch Date Q1'11
Processor Number i3-2100
# of Cores 2
# of Threads 4
Clock Speed 3.1 GHz
Intel® Smart Cache 3 MB
Bus/Core Ratio 31
DMI 5 GT/s
Instruction Set 64-bit
Instruction Set Extensions SSE4.1/4.2, AVX
Embedded Options Available No

A major highlight here is the included graphics processor. The second generation i3 processors have an included Intel HD Graphics 2000 GPU. For only $117 you've got a GPU that can handle 3D gaming and it supports dual monitors. You'll probably have to turn down the special effects, but for the price it's quite capable.

The i3-2100 is clocked at 3.1GHz. It doesn't come with the Turbo Boost Technology we've seen in their other more expensive processors, but 3.1 GHz for such a low price is a bargain. The processor has 2 cores and comes with Intel's Hyper-Threading Technology.

3DMark Vantage:

We can see immediately that the i7 is still a force to be reckoned with in terms of CPU power. The Graphics score only suffered slightly from the processor.

The i3 holds its own for the rest of the 3DMark Vantage scores, only dropping behind slightly on the GPU Particles FPS.

MAXON CINEBENCH:

The i3 trails behind again in rendering when put up against other quad core processors.

This score really says it all. The dual core i3 might not be as powerful as the other quad cores offered by Intel, but a single core from our i3 was capable of outperforming a single core from several other processors including the first gen i7. Now that's impressive!

Let's take a minute to talk about real world experience. If you're looking for a processor that is fast and responsive, the i3 is all that. With a GTX 470 graphics card, we were able to turn all our favorite special effects all the way up and play games without noticing any lag.

Conclusion:

If you're looking to build a gaming computer and you're cash is limited you might want to consider going with one of these outstanding i3 processors. Put the extra money towards a better dedicated graphics card. For every day usage the i3 is an excellent choice and it comes with a very affordable price tag. You can build a very affordable computer with this processor taking advantage of its built in GPU. Based on it’s features and performance, the Intel i3-2100 has earner our Value Award. Keep up the great work Intel! For more info and complete specs, check out their website at www.intel.com.

Mobile DTV Crucial During Emergencies Such as East Coast Earthquake

Washington, DC -- Aug 25, 2011 / (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- The Open Mobile Video Coalition today sent the letter below to Commissioners of the Federal Communications Commission, in the aftermath of Tuesday's east coast earthquake regarding the crucial importance of Mobile Digital TV during emergencies:

August 25, 2011

The Honorable Julius Genachowski, Chairman
The Honorable Michael J. Copps
The Honorable Robert M. McDowell
The Honorable Mignon Clyburn

Federal Communications Commission
445 12th Street SW
Washington, D.C. 20554

Re: Mobile DTV Responds to East Coast Earthquake

Dear Chairman Genachowski and Commissioners Copps, McDowell and Clyburn:

Tuesday's unnerving earthquake in the Washington, D.C., area provides additional evidence of the continuing crucial importance of free, over-the-air local broadcasting as a source of news, information and reassurance in times of emergency. Once again, as wireless networks failed under stress from predictably increased call volumes, broadcast television stations were on the air offering an uninterrupted real time service available simultaneously to anyone, and everyone, with a television set.

The Open Mobile Video Coalition, representing more than 900 of the nation's commercial and non-commercial television stations, is working to bring the ubiquity and reliability of broadcast television to viewers on the go -- on their mobile phones, tablets and laptops, and in their cars -- through broadcast Mobile DTV technology. Naturally, consumers value being able to access their favorite entertainment and sports programming wherever they go. But our experience and research, including in connection with last Fall's D.C. Consumer Showcase, demonstrate that above all viewers turn to broadcast Mobile DTV for news, weather and real-time emergency information.

During Tuesday's earthquake, OMVC test users received real time local broadcast services on their Mobile-DTV enabled phones and other hand-held devices even as they were evacuated from their workplaces -- and even as mobile phone users were unable to place or receive calls or, in some cases, to send or receive e-mails or text messages. Mobile DTV users stayed informed, without capacity constraints or service interruptions. Their experience mirrored that of viewers in Japan during last March's earthquake and tsunami, when public safety authorities relied on existing broadcast television and Mobile DTV infrastructure to disseminate real time information about evacuation plans, safety precautions and rescue operations simultaneously to an unlimited number of viewers throughout the country. Broadcast television and Mobile DTV were the only means by which first responders and other authorities could communicate with the public after point-to-point commercial wireless communication s services were completely incapacitated.

Wireless networks simply are not now, and never will be, in a position to deliver the sort of ubiquitous, bandwidth intensive information during a time of crisis that broadcast television and Mobile DTV stations delivered on Tuesday. Merely allocating additional spectrum to wireless networks will not enable them to do so. Cellular economics do not allow for the massive buildout of network infrastructure that would be necessary to support the large call and data volume that invariably is triggered by mass events of this nature.

Fortunately, Tuesday's earthquake was a minor event, involving no loss of life, minimal property damage and little more than temporary inconvenience for most Washington-area residents. Yet we can't help noting that even in these relatively benign circumstances, both network operators and the Department of Homeland Security were urging consumers not to use their mobile phones, and instead to rely on e-mail and text messages to stay informed and communicate with friends and family, because network congestion so severely limited the effectiveness of mobile networks. But broadcasters were on the air immediately and throughout the emergency with live video and reportage that was simultaneously distributed to multiple complementary platforms -- over the air to in-home sets, to broadcast Mobile DTV-equipped devices, to cable and satellite, and online. Our pictures and live reporting were worth many thousands of Twitter messages and RSS feeds, and they were delivered reliably, withou t interruption and without per-character usage charges.

With 96 stations already on the air and many more to come, we urge you to recognize and support the crucial importance of Mobile DTV in the evolving information ecosystem. Mobile DTV is one of the advanced applications being deployed by our nation's commercial and non-commercial digital broadcasters, and is just another example of their continuing commitment to service in the public interest.

Very truly yours,

Vince Sadusky
President, Open Mobile Video Coalition
President & CEO, LIN Media

Krell Industries to Introduce First Architectural Speaker at CEDIA 2011

Modulari Ion Extends Reference Sound Quality to Flat Panel TV Systems

ORANGE, CT, August, 2011 — Leveraging technology and build elements from the award winning Krell Modulari Series, the new Modulari Ion delivers audiophile grade sound to flat panel TV based installations. “The Modulari Ion brings a level of performance to the architectural market that previously has not existed.” said Bill McKiegan, Krell President. “A unique cooperative design and manufacturing effort with Leon Speakers exploits their mechanical and customization expertise and couples it to our crossover design and driver integration to produce a speaker that is unique in the flat panel TV world.
The Modulari Ion utilizes the same design principles and techniques that are the foundation of the Modulari series: acoustically inert low-diffraction cabinetry, high-power low-distortion crossovers, and high-performance drivers. When combined with Krell electronics, the Modulari Ion completes a Krell HEAT (High End Audio Theater) - a system of stunning dynamics and musical involvement.
Enclosure Highlights
Working with the engineers and craftsmen at Leon Speakers, the cabinets are constructed using 1” MDF and feature 3/4” billet Aluminum baffles. The curvature of the cabinets is designed to completely minimize the effects of internal standing waves. Internal bracing is aligned asymmetrically to increase cabinet rigidity while further reducing internal resonant modes.
“We are thrilled to be working with Leon Speakers on the Modulari Ion speaker.” Mr. McKiegan explains. “Starting with the expertise resident at Leon Speakers, we have achieved the most rigid enclosure possible insuring the sound emanating from the speaker is only from the drivers.
The drivers are identical to the ones used in the Modulari Duo Reference loudspeaker. A 1” ScanSpeak ring radiator tweeter provides flat frequency response to 64kHz. Two 7” aluminum-cone ScanSpeak woofers provide low frequencies. A proprietary suspension and extended voice coil assure high power handling and extremely linear performance. The woofers are positioned forward of the tweeter achieving time alignment of the drivers.
High Performance Crossover Networks
All network components are mounted on 1/8-inch thick glass epoxy circuit boards with oversized 4-ounce copper traces. This design ensures superior linearity by minimizing circuit resistance and inductance. It also eliminates microphonics and assures high current handling capability. “Typical crossovers act as funnels,” described Mr. McKiegan. “Power delivered by the amplifier is choked off before it reaches the drivers. The breadth and dimension of the music is compressed by the crossover.” Mr. McKiegan continues, “Our experience in designing and manufacturing high power amplifiers is the underpinning of our crossover design. The crossovers behave as if they were extensions of our amplifiers, directing the power to the drivers unimpeded.”
Network inductors are all air-core pure-copper designs. Multiple individually potted polypropylene capacitors are employed in parallel to minimize resistance and inductance while improving current handling.
Unprecedented Performance
All of this adds up to a unique listening experience from an architectural speaker. “Put the Modulari Ion speakers in a system with our music or home theater electronics, and you get sound that I can only describe as pure Krell—as explosive, delicate, and immediate as music itself.” Mr. McKiegan concludes.
Suggested retail price: $ 6,500 each, shipping November, 2011

Kingston Digital Awarded Five-Out-of-Five Stars Rating from SC Magazine in Portable Device Security Review

· DataTraveler 4000-Managed USB Flash Drive Cited for Robust Security and Enterprise Ease of Policy and Device Management

Fountain Valley, CA -- August 23, 2011 -- Kingston Digital, Inc., the Flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced that its DataTraveler® 4000-Managed (DT4000-M) received the highest rating available ― five stars ― from the prestigious SC Magazine in a review of Portable Security Devices.

The DT4000-M was considered a very secure choice for enterprises due to the USB Flash drive’s full range of features, ease of use, performance, documentation, support and value for the money. “The drive itself uses hardware-based AES 256-bit encryption to protect the data that is stored locally, but the real power comes by way of the console. Here, administrators can set policy for passwords and device use, device locking and auditing files,” the review stated.

In 2010, Kingston® partnered with BlockMaster® to leverage its SafeConsole® management platform to enhance the portfolio of DataTraveler solutions with managed data security and reliability of FIPS 140-2 validated USB Flash drives. The SC Magazine five-star award acknowledges the robustness of the Kingston DT4000-M along with the BlockMaster ‘SafeConsole for Kingston’ management solution.

The DT4000-M offers enterprises an easy way to manage USB Flash drive security and is an excellent value for the money, Peter Stephenson, Technology Editor, SC Magazine, said in the review. The product offers several policy options available and features full-file auditing and forensic capabilities in the event of possible data leakage, he said. “The Kingston-encrypted DataTraveler Flash drives have been a personal favorite for years. This one is no disappointment.”

Managed, secure USBs can serve as the cornerstone of an organization’s security policy procedures, education and enforcement. Kingston’s managed secure USB Flash drives combined with SafeConsole for Kingston software enable enterprises to audit, track and control the data residing on the Flash drives. Administrators can enable specific, managed features, configure password and device policies, remotely reset passwords, activate audit for compliance and other capabilities. The SafeConsole for Kingston server software is accessed through a standard Web browser and includes an option to reflect the corporate directory and the organizational unit structure.

“We’re pleased to receive this top ranking from SC Magazine,” said John Terpening, Secure USB Business Manager, Kingston. “Enterprises spend millions to deploy multi-layered security protections to defend against losing valuable data via hacks and other external forces. Complementing that, they must continue to educate employees and define policies that call for the use of secure and managed USB Flash drives to protect critical data and substantially minimize risk exposure. Kingston makes it easy for organizations to address this issue with a range of solutions at different price points to ensure that data on corporate USBs is secure.”

The family of Kingston/BlockMaster SafeConsole-Ready managed solutions includes:

· DT4000 ― Managed: Designed for high-value corporate deployments and provides FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certification, 100-percent hardware-based AES 256-bit encryption and a centralized management system SafeConsole for Kingston, all at an affordable cost.

· DataTraveler Vault Privacy ― Managed (DTVP-M): Optimal for non-FIPS required, sensitive enterprise environments offering 100-percent hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption, and the SafeConsole for Kingston centralized management system, which is fully customizable to meet an enterprise organization’s needs.

· SafeConsole for Kingston*: DT4000-M and DTVP-M drives require SafeConsole for Kingston management connection at first set up. The management software allows IT administrators control and visibility over the secure drives to safeguard data.

In addition to a full line of secure products, Kingston has access to a long-standing, high volume distribution and supply chain, shipping hundreds of millions of units each year to more than 100 countries worldwide. In a marketplace characterized by a continued shortage of parts, Kingston is able to meet any requirements quickly and cost effectively. Kingston’s secure USB Flash drives are backed by a five-year warranty and 24/7 technical support.

Onkyo Unveils Top-of the-line Network Receivers

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ (8/22/11) -- Leading home entertainment innovator, Onkyo, announces the release of two flagship high-end network 9.2-channel THX Ultra2 Plus-certified A/V receivers—the TX-NR5009 and the TX-NR3009—to complete its line of precision audio-visual products for 2011. As the top models in Onkyo's line, these receivers deliver the power, performance, sophisticated processing, exceptional connectivity, and quality that audio-video enthusiasts have come to expect from Onkyo.

Both receiver models include major upgrades from last year, including the use of the latest HQV-Vida and Marvel Qdeo video processors, new DTS Neo:X dimensional surround processing, Dolby Volume, and new streaming internet radio channels. Onkyo receivers continue to offer more internet music options than any other brand in the industry.

When it comes to input options, the TX-NR5009 and TX-NR3009 are extremely versatile, sporting eight HDMI® inputs and two outputs, plus a full range of legacy analog and digital AV connections. New media connections include an Ethernet port, two USB ports, a Universal Port for Onkyo peripheral devices, and an RGB input for video content from a connected PC. Onkyo also offers an optional UWF-1 wireless LAN adaptor that turns the front panel USB port into a home internet access point. Users can also download and install free applications that turn their Android or iPod touch/iPhone into a full-function remote control to control the receiver.

Both receivers are designed to connect to the new generation of user-customized Internet radio stations and streaming music services, including those from Spotify, AUPEO!, Pandora, Last.fm, Rhapsody, Napster, Mediafly, Slacker, Sirius XM, and vTuner. The receiver is also DLNA 1.5 certified; it can interface with USB-compatible portable music devices, such as iPods, and and play music straight off a USB thumb drive. Naturally, the unit can handle a wide variety of audio formats, including FLAC, WMA Lossless, WAV, AAC, Ogg, MP3, and, for audiophiles, Super Audio CD.

With terminals for 11 speakers, the nine amplifier channels can be tasked to power a wide variety of front, surround, height, bi-amped, or remote-zone loudspeakers depending on the users needs. Onkyo makes it easy to fine-tune all these speakers by providing the latest Audyssey MultEQ® XT32 room-correction and equalization technology, which perfects audio performance regardless of a room’s shape or acoustics.

Onkyo was the first AV receiver manufacturer to introduce DTS Neo:X™, the industry’s first 2.0/5.1/6.1/7.1-to- 9.1/11.1 conversion technology within a single algorithm. This technology allows users to augment a basic 5.1-channel set-up by adding speakers in various combinations of height, wide, and surround channels. As implemented on the TX-NR5009, Neo:X can bring out subtle ambient sounds or even work around the need to install rear speakers to deliver a cinema-like experience. Like last years' models, both receivers include the related surround processing of Audyssey DSX, and Dolby ProLogic IIz.

The next-generation video capabilities of these new receivers are the result of a tag-team effort from two extraordinary new video processors. The HQV® Vida™ VHD 1900 processor lies at the heart of the system, and brings standard video images to life in high definition. The chip employs multi-cadence tracking, expanded 12-bit color-processing, and smooth, motion-adaptive de-interlacing to optimize quality and detail. Marvell’s Qdeo™ technology upscales 1080p video to a full 4K (3840 x 2160), even from sources already upscaled by HQV Vida from lower resolutions to 1080p. This remarkable technology treats the viewer to spectacular images of unparalleled color and clarity, provides enhancement of low-resolution streaming video, and facilitates individual ISFccc video calibration capabilities for all video sources.

Onkyo's eye for detail extends to conveniently backlit remote controls and an overlaid graphical OSD for swift, seamless, and simple adjustment of settings during a program, game, or movie.

Both receivers use Onkyo's proven WRAT (wide range amplifier technology) power stages and three-stage inverted Darlington topology to deliver high power with low distortion and exceptional high current capability. Audio signals on are refined by PLL jitter-cleaning technology and Onkyo's VLSC™ contributes to an extremely crisp digital-to-analog signal conversion. Separate aluminum panels encase the low-resonance chassis to help eliminate vibration and microphonics.

Onkyo’s TX-NR3009 uses 24-bit TI Burr-Brown DACs for each channel and a high-current power supply with large 18,000 µF capacitors and a large EI transformer.

The TX-NR5009's amplifier takes the whole issue of amplifier and power supply performance up a notch. Power flows efficiently from a massive high-current toroidal transformer through two 22,000 µF capacitors, with dedicated transformers for audio and video. The digital audio section employs Powerful 192 kHz/32-bit TI Burr-Brown DACs on all channels, coupled to a 32-bit DSP chip. These contribute to the receiver achieving prestigious THX® Ultra2 Plus™ certification and a level of sound quality that rivals that of many separate component amplifiers.

These two new releases demonstrate Onkyo’s ongoing commitment to offering innovative, integrated, and high-performance home theater products to music and film lovers all over the world.

The Onkyo TX-NR5009 will have a suggested retail price of $2,899 with the TX-NR3009 will be offered for $2,199. They will ship to dealers in the beginning of September.
